Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and all 4 of us chose the roast, pork shoulder. On a positive note, the Roebuck is a very smart looking restaurant and the staff were very polite and attentive. However, a little too attentive at times as we were asked THREE times if our meal was OK. As for the meal, this was a disappointment. I appreciate one man's meat is another man's poison but, although the pork was nice, the crackling had no taste except the taste of old fat. The stuffing was too soft, not crispy and the roast potatoes were also bland. The cauliflower cheese was also bland with stringy cheese which suggests mozzarella was used rather than mature cheese. Our biggest issue by far was the fact that everything on the menu was priced up EXCEPT the Sunday roast. We soon found out why when the bill arrived. To charge £23.95 for a Sunday roast is a disgrace. This was almost the price of a steak. When we have dined in other local establishments, a Sunday roast is usually £14 to £16, and I have to say they have tasted much better than this one. Unfortunately we will not be returning for overpriced...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell below the standard for what should be expected from a 2 night stay at a bed and breakfast, and we will never be staying there again for the following reasons:
Unenthusiastic and scruffy staff.
Poor quality shower, with low pressure.
Old mattress, with next to no back support.
No staff available to offer included breakfast, even by 10am, which also affected other guests.
Out of hour numbers went straight to voicemail.
Unclear instructions how to check out, other than leave the key on the bar area.
General internal layout of hotel area was tired and needs updating.
No soundproofing in the bedrooms, can easily hear other inconsiderate inhabitants/TVs through the floors which really affected our sleep.
Bar was closed by 9pm, even though the sign outside says open until late.
No information pack was in the room, for emergencies, wifi etc.
This is easily the worst property I have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStayed at the Roebuck for one night, accompanied by my š¾š¾, checking in was easy and I was shown (not directed) to my room, which was nicely decorated and clean, there were complimentary toiletries, decent sized kettle and plenty of tea, coffee etc. The room was well aired, so if this was a pet friendly room you would not have known. There was a fleece over the duvet, I assume to protect from š¾š¾. The duvet and pillows were lovely, but let down by a tired looking patterned mattress sheet, I would have scored 5* if there had been mattress and pillow protectors, otherwise the room was great, plenty of hangers, the bathroom was clean and there were plenty of soft fluffy towels. The Roebuck is on a busy main road, but I was not disturbed by traffic or pub noise. I didnāt eat there this visit but would have done as the menu and reviews are very encouraging. Overall a very pleasant...
