This was our first time and won’t be our last! Family had been previously and recommended and we went out for a special celebratory meal.
Firstly, easy to find although, spotted the Indian restaurant first - which is attached to the China Garden. Parking ok and summer vibe with lots of little shipping containers selling a variety of take away foods.
Warm welcome on arrival and seated at a lovely round table which made socialising easier. There were 8 of us altogether.
Staff did plenty of check ins as to whether we wanted to order drinks (while waiting for rest of party) and on ordering water in jugs was also provided with glasses for everyone.
So, ordering . You get a paper copy and a pencil and need to write the amount of that item you would like. There’s soup, appetisers , intermediates, mains and desserts.
Although we ordered one item from the main (squid) with appetisers, generally be aware to keep each course separate. Some of the group didn’t want duck pancakes and some did , so on that round we ordered both and staff checked we wanted them altogether (twice) but then that led to some confusion whether we had finished? We placed another order for the mains but we needed to ask for it . This is not at all a criticism- I think we had confused the ordering - but it was quickly rectified and we had the next course ! They followed up with checking if we had wanted anything else at all before we ordered desserts! I thought the quality of food was amazing!! Maybe as an all you can eat - you’d think they’d skimp on the odd ingredient but it was all great!!
One suggestion - clean plates?? We did seem to have to keep the same plate for the savoury courses?? I’m sure if asked they might have replaced , but it wasn’t...
Read moreVery disappointing visit to the takeaway part of this business and I won't be returning.
The staff was rude and very poor at communicating.
As part of my order I requested chicken chow mein. He replied "fried noodles and bean sprouts?". I assumed he was asking if I wanted bean sprouts in the chicken chow mein I had ordered. When I got home I realised he'd actually simply given me thin egg noodles and bean sprouts. No sign of the chicken chow mein I'd ordered off their menu.
I also asked for a pepsi with my takeaway order. I was quite shocked that if was £4.40 for a pepsi, but I was parched, so I decided to get it anyway. He then proceeded to fill a pint glass with pepsi. I asked if they had cans of drinks as I ordered for takeaway. He said "no, it's a restaurant", I pointed out I ordered at their takeaway counter, not in their restaurant. The food order was ready in 5 minutes, so I only had 5 minutes to rapidly drink a pint of pepsi that cost a ridiculous £4.40 at their takeaway counter. A drink I wanted to take away from the building!
As I left, I was told to "shut the door". This is something I was obviously going to do. I'd consider the way he said it to me, to be pretty rude and not at all the way you should talk to a customer.
The food was pretty average, especially as one of the dishes was not at all what I...
Read moreI'm amending my review due to recent poor service. We actually haven't been for probably over a year, preferring another local Chinese takeaway instead, but thought we'd give it another try.
Ordered online - including set meal B, which according to the menu includes 12x Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls. Great, that divides perfectly between 2,3 or 4 people.
Except only 10 were supplied, which we only discovered when we got back home. Emailed to let them know, only to be told:
"our chicken balls portion comes depending on the sizes of the chicken that comes with. The max amount is 12 but if the chicken cuts bigger it will come in 10 if they are smaller it will come with 12."
Um, that's not how it works. You state you're selling 12 of something you don't then get to decide once people have bought it that actually you're only going to provide 10 after all!?
They state that they will amend the website following my feedback, but we will return to our usual...
