We visited on a relatively quiet Wednesday afternoon in the Easter holidays, arriving shortly before 4pm. Pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn't particularly busy, plenty of tables, all of which were clean and tidy and free from dead plates and cups/mugs, which is my pet hate. 3 hot drinks, decaf cappuccino and two hot chocolates, plus a fruit cake (lovely and moist chocked full of fruit and cherries), scone and a piece of coffee cake (very rich and creamie); just over £23. The service was good. Staff cleaning the tables, as we approached closing time at 5pm. Light, bright and airy with comfortable chairs. Level 10 Google reviewer with over 1,200 reviews with 2 million views plus 14,000 photos with more than 60 million views and still going strong 💪. Check out my other reviews 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

3 of us meet regularly at Highfields restaurant for breakfast and a catch up but we have been disappointed with the breakfasts lately. The food is displayed in too big a quantity under lights and on hotplates that seem to carry on cooking the food and on occasion we have witnessed staff throwing eggs away. During todays visit the eggs were over cooked with the yolks gone hard on both the fried and the poached eggs. The chef declined to cook a fresh one for one of our party as he said he hadn’t long put them out and the counter staff were equally unconcerned resulting in that breakfast being cancelled by our party member. My breakfast was only lukewarm with the bacon hard and tough to eat where it had dried out, and the toast was cold (the butter didn’t even begin melt on it) and anaemic looking. This was similar to last week and when I asked then for the toast to be put through the machine again it came out burnt. According to the waitress that was the 2 choices - underdone or overdone. I’m afraid my meal was wasted today as it was inedible and after the chefs refusal to rectify the egg situation I wasn’t inclined to take it back. It’s fair to say we weren’t the only disappointed customers this morning and we won’t be breakfasting...

Great food and lovely cakes and coffee. Get there early if you want to bags a comfy seat! I often meet up with my friends there. It's dog friendly which is fantastic (that's the staff and vast majority of the customers. I've had one tut from an old lady and my dog was on a lead and very well behaved. There's always one!) and when she was alive, it was great to be able to take her there otherwise we would've had to meet up elsewhere. It's close to the motorway if you're not local and there are lovely views from the restaurant. One of the nicest places to eat, or have a coffee and...
