We had a lovely evening in the Olive Tree and would highly recommend the place to visitors and locals. The menu is very influenced by Mediterranean cooking with main plates available as well as pasta and pizza dishes. We had the anti-pasta to start with and it I was very impressive indeed maybe one of the best I've had outside of Italy (apart from my mum's house!). I had moussaka for my main which tasted excellent with some interesting flavours that I couldn't place but worked well. My only mark down was that the moussaka was served in an individual ceramic dish/ramekin instead of served as a portion on a plate. The problem with presenting dishes like that is that it makes the food a bit too hot to eat effectively and enjoyably and you end up with a more sloppy meal which you have to scoop out rather than cut and enjoy (it's a bugbear of mine really and I should've checked before ordering). My partner had pulled lamb shoulder (yes we had to laugh at the name of that one) the presentation of that dish was far better served on a bed of celerac. Tasted lovely too. The proprietor gave us an excellent welcome on our arrival and seemed genuine. The service from our waitress was also excellent. Will definitely be trying the other dishes at the Olive Tree again, baby...
Read moreAn unexpected & delightful early evening meal.. Unexpected only in that we hadn't planned to journey home on a Friday evening thru Nailsworth.... The efficient team, while obviously v-busy, took note of an unusual diet requirement (allium allergy) & came up with a creative menu variation that was more than delicious. We sat outside adjacent to the main restaurant in a triangle shaped courtyard. It was quiet & calm early on but became fun/ animated as evening guests arrived. The absence of piped or background music was appreciated - we could hear; the staff explain things & our own conversation - reflecting on a lovely day out in Gloucestershire. I am sure like most things in life "The Olive Tree" has good & not so good days but we certainly enjoyed a good...
