First of all, staff wonderful, welcoming and relaxed, no complaints about the staff at all. Been here several times with no issues, it’s pub grub and we don’t have high expectations. Ordered whitebait, is it the best whitebait, no it’s not but for pub food, it’s definitely enjoyable! Husband order nacho’s, I don’t know what he got served but it wasn’t nachos. Some chemically looking gloopy cheese in a bowl with what looked like irregular fried pitta bread or something but it wasn’t nachos, no condiments with it either. It was the main that really let it down. Now before the meat eaters start a riot, we eat meat occasionally but predominately veggie. We ordered the garden burger (we know it’s not going to be like a meat based burger) but it was just awful, totally inedible, it had no structure just turned to mush in the bun, the pickle was cooked and it didn’t work, the flavour of the burger was rotten, lettuce hadn’t been trimmed and was browning, no idea what seasoning went into it but try something else please. Had plenty of good tasting, textured, veggie burgers at other restaurants but this was just awful! Once we realised how grim the food was, started to notice how run down the place is, ripped upholstery, tables held together with beer coasters. It was sad, the whole experience was just sad. I don’t think we’ll be going back for food again. It was a waste of food and money

Gave this a try due to stopping in the travelodge next door and it was very disappointing. We all ordered a mixed grill at approximately 18.15, and an hour later, we were still waiting! We went and asked about our food and was told it should only be about 10 minutes and it was about another 30 minutes. I made a joke about free desserts for the wait, which was granted. Unfortunately, after the very long wait, the mixed grill was very poor! The meat was very tough especially the chicken and the steaks were all well done when asked for medium rare and all of them were missing the onion rings which we only mentioned after as we had waited long enough. The response was that the chef had not put them in and didn't want to delay us anymore? Then, when sat waiting for our desserts, we spoke to a guy who was just in for a pint who has been working around here for 18 months on and off. He said, "This place has only just been reopened 2 weeks after getting refurbished, and it is still rubbish." When the desserts arrived, one of them looked like someone had taken a bite out of the base and all the spoon handles were covered in the sauce obviously another rushed job. The only positive is that the lasses on the bar were really friendly and chatty, which gives it 2 stars. Otherwise, it was 1 or 0 if it was an option.

Absolutely gorgeous food, we went for dinner & then breakfast the next day. Good price £12.95 for a carvery Mon to Sat. You actually get decent slices of meat, looo at how thick my gammon slice was & that wasn’t even the “large” upgrade. Breakfast was lovely, nice to have fried eggs unlike most places that don’t bother, the coffee was independent & not from Costa / Starbucks, as someone who loves coffee I was more than impressed, no sweetener / sugar needed as the blend of coffee bean was amazing. We was staying in the Travelodge opposite so this is really handy to have next door.

Such a shame, the carvery was nice, but the service was just appalling.

Firstly, I booked a private room online, I even spoke to them over the phone asking if I have to pay extra for the private room, and was told no. When I arrived I said ‘I’ve got a room booked’ and they laughed at me, saying ‘you expecting a bath with that room?’ I just didn’t say anything at the time. Then they took me to a normal table, so this ‘private room’ thing online, doesn’t even exist.

We sat waiting for absolutely ages for our starters, longer for the mains, which they got mixed up and even longer for the desserts which they kept getting wrong, even though we preordered. We waited an hour and half for our desserts after our mains, they kept coming at separate times, most of us finished our desserts before a few of them even got theirs.

When we were trying to explain to one of the waitresses what we ordered for dessert, she just stormed off half way through us talking to her.

They were all just standing around the tills chatting and laughing, whilst we were waiting. Took them over an hour to take our plates and even then they took half the plates and left the rest until we had to ask again.

When we went to pay at the end, we asked for the bill which they didn’t bring, so we had to just use the menus to work out our own meals. Then the woman behind the till was so disgusting to the other member of staff who told us he was new. She stated very loudly “well you should have listened then shouldn’t you! I’ll do your job again” making the atmosphere very uncomfortable! The poor lad was lovely and was doing a good job working his way through it.

Beyond ridiculous service, will never come back, made my birthday 10x more stressful than it needed to be.

The gentleman who we paid behind the counter and the man who served us our meat at the carvery were the only decent members of...
