The staff were nice to me (but there was a customer who was threatened to not be served because he walked past the waiting stand) and served my food quickly. I ordered the trio roast dinner which is turkey, gammon and beef with the regular sides (potatoes, vegetables etc). Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of turkey - that may be a good thing as the other meats were drier than sandpaper - and the menu was fasley advertised. In the menu, there was a photo of the food I had ordered, trio of the meats; beef, turkey and gammon, two yorkshire puddings, potatoes, stuffing squares, cabbage, carrots, and gravy. I was served one yorkshire pudding, carrots, potatoes, a plate full of gravy, no cabbage, no stuffing. I understand if there is a shortage of food in the kitchen but I'd like to know if there was, otherwise, I've been cheated. Beside the shortage of food (also meaning the tiny portions), I paid for the unlimited drink. The machine was easy to use despite the syrup for the Dr Pepper drink failing to mix, the other drinks worked. The ice machine was also a simple machine to use and the ice was shaved and seemed fresh. Then, for dessert, I ordered the vegan £4.99 triple chocolate brownie. It was warm and tasteful. Unfortunately, the tables were sticky and still marked with circles from where the previous customers had spilt their drink. The brick walls hadn't been dusted, they were really dusty and smothered in webs. Usually, I wouldn't mind this but the fact that the table was up against this dust collecting wall, I'm concerned about the cleanliness of this restaurant. Overall, two stars because of the tasteless dinner and dirty tables. Two starts because of the edible desert. Could be better...
Read moreMy daughter and I share a birthday, and booked for party of 7 people at 2pm 27/10/2019. We have never been to this restaurant, and didn't know the "set up." I led us inside and waited for someone to show us to a table. An older man took my name and said, "Oh you have left it late. Your table was for 2pm." I thought he was messing about, until he pointed to the corner of his screen. "Look it's four minutes past two!!!!!" I decided to believe this was just some weird banter, and ignored it. After about 10 mins, he came over and asked us when we were going to eat as, "Time is ticking on." He walked off and another member of staff explained that we had to order everything at the bar. No problem, we soon did that. We waited a good 45 mins for our food, but was happily chatting amongst ourselves. The older man came over and said, "Have you ordered yet, as we only allow 2 hours for your stay." I have never been so harassed in a restaurant. Usual standards are 2 hours for a couple, and 3+ hours for groups of 4 or more. Finally our meals arrived and were mostly very good, although one person ordered a chicken burger, and had 3 chicken goujons in it. It still tasted ok, and value for all the other meals, would have deserved 5 stars. Needless to say, we didn't order any desserts, incase we had to vacate the table. I wasn't going to react to this very rude man, until I had finished my meal. But I think his shift must have ended, as I saw no more of him. Another large group sat at a table behind, when we arrived. He must have liked them as he chatted and laughed with them for some time. This friendly relaxed approach, should apply to all guests. Not just...
Read moreFabulous all round.
We found this place purely by chance following a lovely walk along a pathway from Kingsway. (About 22 minute walk using Google Maps)
There appeared to be plenty of parking available.
Having entered, there was a group of people ahead; staff were quick to greet and seat.
Staff were all very friendly, polite and helpful. Having decided on our food we went up to the bar to place our order. (Remember to note your table number). We liked the fact you had the option to pay or have a tab.
We were able to sample the wine, to ensure we bought the sweetest available (opted for the Sauvignon Blanc Mud House). The staff could not have been anymore accommodating.
Toilets were located to the left of the bar, through a set of doors within the attached Premier Inn reception, very clean.
We would totally recommend the Value Menu; 2 Mains for £8.99. You can add specific Starter and/or Dessert for extra £2.49 each.
The food was served in a reasonable amount of time.
The food was ever so tasty: Garlic & Herb Mushrooms Smothered Chicken Gammon Steak (choice of 2 Eggs, 2 Pineapple or 1 of each) Caramel Apple Betty
Great portion sizes, plenty of chips, I couldn't actually eat them all. The Gammon was by far the best I have eaten in a long time.
Whilst we have found in general that quality and quantity have decreased and prices have increased, here is an exception.. Great quality Food, Good Portion Sizes, Fabulous Staff and Nice Location, easy to access from the town.
If back in Harwich, we would certainly return to eat here again. We have already...
