Golden City — Restaurant in Tewkesbury

Since I moved to Gloucester years ago I've been looking for a good chinese - I am happy to say I've finally found an amazing one! Better than any other I've had both in and out of Gloucester.

The food was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The customer service was great - really lovely staff from the get go. They were upfront about being busy so said it'd be about an hour - they ended up being early, only around 40 minutes. I appreciated the fact they were honest about how long it would take, others may have overpromised and underdelivered - but Golden City did it right. Even the prices are far more reasonable than most takeaways in Gloucester.

Only way it could be better is if you could order for ASAP through the website (instead of over the phone), but I understand why if they're often busy. Our new favourite takeaway - 100%...

Very poor experience. Would avoid during busy periods at all costs.

Told to collect my order at 7:20pm — arrived early, paid, and waited. Over 30 minutes later, others who arrived after me were served first. And there was a clear priority to the delivery orders streaming in. Kitchen staff clearly forgot my order but gave no updates or apology for the mistake.

When I finally got my food, it was wrong — despite clearly asking and confirming with the staff member for plain chow mein with no veg, it had veg. Had to go back in for a refund which added on to the ordeal.

Nearly an hour and a half from ordering to finally eating, and the whole thing left me frustrated and disappointed.

Bit confused as telephoned for a delivery order totalling£58, to be told they had no drivers and it was cash only. After sitting in traffic outside tesco churchdown to get cash out and having to drive to there, I entered to see another person paying by card! When I questioned why I was told cash only he said it was to pay his drivers! The drivers that he told me over the phone that he didn't have. I told him I thought something was very dodgy about the whole thing. He said it was still to pay his drivers so why was I chasing around churchdown to withdraw cash out for him, as they are his drivers not mine. Food in the end was ok...
