(Old reviews to remain)
Booked and arrived on the 4th September 2025 and sadly had to leave as it was just too busy what with 3 children and seated a fair distance away and queue nearly heading out the front door! Spoke to the lady on duty that day who kindly arranged us more appropriate seating arrangements for the very next day (at a less busy time). Arrived and food was lovely. I think there’s something about Toby Carvery that keeps -a specific category - of people coming back for more. You know it’s not luxury. You know it’s not posh nosh. But you can show up in your sweats and expect to leave with a tummy full of decent scran and no dishes to wash! Nowt better than that!
About a year on from this review and ALOT has changed. The restaurant saw a remodelling and face lift of areas in major need. The gravy station is in (my opinion) a much better place. In sight of staff, constantly replenished and very LIT. No more dark and gloom behind the pillar! Still think pumps for the sauces would be good as I made a right old mess yesterday trying to put sauce on 4 plates with people waiting 🤣.
We had Tilly as our waitress and although to enter to draw I need to leave ‘5*’ she genuinely does deserve it. She recognises us at this point. Knew which drinks we wanted and the jug of squash for the kids. Was pro active about getting our desserts and the bill. Absolutely no complaints. And previously I felt the pub was understaffed…and even if it still is…I can’t tell. Staff stick to their areas, everything gets done. Limited wait times. Tables constantly cleared away….so yeh…5*s.
Old review:
Jeez....usually pretty good but on the 5th? BIG NOPE. Poor staff were obvioulsy trying their best so didn't say anything 'bad' to them (As it would waste even more time that they clearly didn't have).
There looked to be only only 2 general staff, 2 senior staff and then 1 chef serving, 1 assistant rushing about and 2 or so in the back. Definitely understaffed.
The braised leeks were AWFUL. Infact me and a few of the tables were talking about how they tasted like hairspray. Totally ruined our meals! Roast potatoes undercooked qnd mash.. SOUR?! Had to wait 45minutes to get ice-cream! Table next to us was ordering desserts and got so fed up of waiting that they just asked for the bill and left.
Left dirty dishes and ice cream pots right next to the gravy station. Also the male staff member in non uniform (wearing an unbuttoned grey and white checkered shirt with white shirt and grey jeans...vv stylish..) spray anti-bac on his computer screen which is right behind the gravy....with there being no pane between the two sides, all the spray went on the gravy. Obviously an accident...but maybe if there was more organisation it would make understaffed services easier???
Chef was lovely. As was the brunette staff member in...

This review is based on our experience at the carvery, we have dined here before for breakfast where everything was a 5/5
Long wait times to be sat on entry, staff walking past not acknowledging people waiting to be dealt with.
Once sat, we all chose the carvery and my husband approached the bar to order. A lady server (who was very nice) came to take our order from the table, where I had mentioned my husband had gone to the bar to order, He returned, being told by the bar team he had to order food through the table team ( not at any point from being sat were we advised of this) Lady server returns, we explain what has happened, she advises we could order food at the bar (already a inconvenience and lack of team comms from management) We proceed to the carvery, where no one is serving, we wait 2/3 minutes and still no one, team members are replenishing the food, but again no acknowledgment, floor staff including a lady supervisor keep going into the kitchen but no one comes out to serve. We see kitchen staff keep coming up to the door window looking through and then walking back to the back of the kitchen. 5 minutes in and the queue is building behind us, and we start to hear grumbling from these people too. A manager walks into the kitchen audible calling for service, but it takes another 2/3 minutes for someone to come out. There was no apology, the kitchen staff looked miserable, and as soon as he had served the lady in front he disappeared back into the kitchen, and then another grumpy looking chef emerged, he was pedantic and nonchalant, someone asked for gammon, turkey and pork and he replied in a cocky manner…”so you want everything but beef then?!” I have no idea what the heck had been happening in that kitchen, but it was taken out on the customers. The food itself was fine, the beef had seen better days and was full of gristle. We complained about the beef, where the manager (who was friendly) told us we should have mentioned it to the kitchen team…( with that experience I think not) It was a good job the food was enjoyed by a majority of our party or it would have really soured...
Read moreWhere do I start 😞 Went for a family meal and was highly disappointed. Ordered drinks at bar while waiting for table, refill has been increased to £6 each!! When I got my glass it was filthy so I asked for another one and that was also dirty so asked for another one and it was slammed down on the bar like I was being inconvenient and I was given a filthy look from server behind bar. CARVERY- meat was all fatty and the smallest portions I have ever seen the food was low standard to say the least and that’s being generous the veg was rock hard so was the Mac n cheese and also the cauliflower cheese and the Yorkshire puddings were chewy and very cold the gravy serving area was beyond filthy covered in gravy and all the food and sauces were spilled and mixed up! The sauces had forks in which made it difficult to get out the bowls on pouring the gravy it was luke warm at that! When telling staff they were not always helpful not all but a few didn’t seem to care! The salt pots on the tables in our area we were sat were all wet and salt was stuck, clearly they had been washed and refilled when the pots were not dry this was on EVERY table near us! Our table of 12 hardly ate anything due to how disgusting cold and undercooked it was and was very disappointing as it was an 11 year olds birthday meal! On telling the waitress who’s fault it was not and we told her that we didn’t like to complain but it was absolutely unacceptable she was very apologetic she said the chefs were new which to us was not an excuse for the food standard to be that way and as my mother in law had the worst plate of us all she was refunded and a complimentary pudding given which was kind of the waitress when we showed her the salt on EVERY table she shrugged it off! Overall the pub is absolutely filthy we had been going to Toby in over and it had slipped but Brockworth location is absolutely shocking! Won’t be returning to say the least! Only good thing was our waitress was pleasant and the front of house showing people to their table was also...
