Stretford Canteen — Restaurant in Trafford

We recently had Sunday lunch at Stretford Canteen, a quintessentially neighbourhood vibe for sure. We were thoroughly impressed with everything from start to finish. The atmosphere was fantastic, with a warm and inviting ambiance that made me feel right at home. The restaurant had an eclectic small selection of booze, very thoughtfully put together. We were particularly pleased with the Madeira and vermouth options.

The food was outstanding, with each dish expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The flavors were bold and well balanced, and I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients used. I especially enjoyed the classic French dishes, which were cooked to perfection and had a great depth of flavor.

Turbot with clams, beef short rib, Salmon clams and fennel. All the classics, executed with exceptional seasoning.

The service was excellent, with the staff being attentive and friendly. They were knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. The staff clearly takes great pride in their work and goes above and beyond to ensure their guests have an enjoyable experience.

In conclusion, I highly recommend this bistro to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. The combination of great food, delicious wine, fantastic ambience, and outstanding service make it a standout in Manchester for sure.

I've been to Stretford Canteen twice now, once in the summer and once in November, when the menu had switched over to its winter offerings. It's taken me these two visits and two different menus to come to the conclusion that not only is this the best restaurant in Stretford, but the whole of Manchester. Crazy exaggeration? Not in the slightest. Being positioned in Stretford Mall off Chester Road means the place has an unassuming air about it, ensuring it doesn't insist upon itself (sort of the opposite of the Godfather according to Peter Griffin). The result is a lovely, laid back atmosphere, which is only enhanced further by the friendly staff. And then there's the food. We were very excited to experience the food at Stretford canteen given the rav reviews, we chose the restaurant instead of Street Urchin in Ancoats my sons 30th birthday, we were disappointed to be regretting our choice.

The flavour of the food was good however the quality and quantity didn’t meet our expectations, the short rib was exceptionally fatty so you couldn’t eat much of it and we ended up having to order more to feel satisfied. The accompanying purées and vegetables weren’t enough for the men in our party of five. I was also disappointed by the texture of the choices bun and the amount of crème patisseries The bill for five was £288 that’s a lot of money for us, we were hoping for some special and we were also rushed out of the restaurant and I wasn’t advised there was a time on the table.
