If you are living locally or you are just visiting Tonbridge Wells, LagodiComo Bar and Restaurant is a place that must be on your list if you like Italian cuisine. Me and my wife had a lovely dinner recently in this place and it was an amazing experience. The restaurant has a great location, very close to High St, with a lot of places to visit around . There are plenty of parking places in the nearby area, we only walked 5min from the car. The moment we stepped in we were welcomed with a friendly positive attitude by the staff and we were amazed by the beauty of the place with lovely interior design, lights, shades and colours. The restaurant is spotless in terms of cleanliness. We served dinner and the food, cooked with fresh ingredients, was so delicious and authentic. The portions are not very big, the chef concentrates more on the quality, flavor, taste and elegance of the plate then quantity. So if you are very hungry and you want to eat the American way big portions this place is not for you, plenty in the area. On our visit we interacted with a few members of the staff and all of them were very friendly, eager to help, acting with professionalism making our visit an experience hard to remember. There is a wide variety of wines to choose from, amazing cocktails and premium Italian beer. If I have something to complain about, this is absolutely personal, I absolutely dislike the idea of service charge. I think it is quite disrespectful and redundant towards the customers as this is the main objective of a restaurant , to serve people. When the same bottle of wine that I can buy it from the local store with £50 you are selling it with £100 this is your services charge. Although I do believe in tipping, the tip should be minimum between 5-20%, should be suggested on the bill and the tip should reflect the satisfaction you had , it shouldn't be mandatory. But this is what I think and in our case we have been very satisfied. As a summary, the place is great, the staff is amazing and I am definitely...
Read moreWow, this is such a wonderful find. The sumptuous decor, the friendly staff and the delicious food made for a wonderful lunchtime experience. My only problem was that I ate so well, part of me just wanted to curl up and have an afternoon nap afterwards.
On arrival we were greeted with gusto, a really warm Italian welcome. We were shown to a lovely window by the window where the sun was streaming in. We had little packs of breadsticks by our pristine white cloth napkins and our gleaming cutlery, which we nibbled on as we ordered our drinks. The juices were those lovely glass bottles and the youngster in the group enjoyed the carrot, orange and lemon juice poured over ice with an eco friendly paper straw. My partner had an alcohol free Peroni and I had a crodino, which I hadn't tried before, but was like an adult Irn-Bru with some lovely bitters and I loved it - a non alcoholic Italian aperitif, which was just right on a sunny day.
For main courses, the youngster had spaghetti a meatballs and ate everything up with a wonderful orange smear left around her mouth by the time she had finished. I had the slow-cooked lamb in chianti and my partner had the veal escalopes in a Grand Marnier sauce with flaked almonds. Both dishes came woth roasted vine tomatoes and green beans and we also opted to share some roast potatoes between us. By the end our plates were clean and we were stuffed......but then the dessert menu arrived! Everything looked great, but a scoop of salted caramel ice-cream was ordered for the little one and the spiced dark chocolate mousse for the two of grown ups to share.
We could not fault anything with the food or service and we will be back again to enjoy the evening...
Read moreGreat menu, great food BUT shabby chic/rustic tables made of planks with debris stuck in between the slats-not very attractive. Table had tacky feel-probably down to the disinfectant cleaner. We were upstairs and once more we found the background music too loud which made everyone else in the room raise their voices!-even before they had had a few drinks! The food was well prepared and served up very quickly. Greta selection of different types of pasta and the squid ink risotto is always good. Portions were also very good. The tiramisu was very good but not as Bocca Social or Donna Maria's. The wine list was extensive but who really pays £300 for a bottle of wine in this type of restaurant? This also had the dearest cafe latte I have ever experienced £4.10!!! We both had three courses and I had a small very nice beer and my wife had a soft drink. The bill came and it was shy of £100. Yes, this is another restaurant that is adding 12.5% automatically onto the bill. I know it is discretionary but placing it there is intending to create either of two things. Cotes was one of the first to do this and now it looks like the norm. We were hoping to return but because of the cost, which we can get the same food at the same quality in at least two other restaurants we have decided against. This is like Gioccomo's on the Weald without the finesse, linen table covers and napkins but at a higher price, and we thought Gioccomo's was expensive at one time.. Maybe they were hoping to attract the level of celebrity residents from Lake Como and should have aimed at Bosena instead. This is a good restaurant...
