The most tasteless Indian food in Tunbridge Wells My husband and I went there a few nights ago with friends. We had been avoiding it for around 18 months, as we always seemed to get a "loose tummy" the next day after eating there. We thought we would give it another go ....much to our huge disappointment ! The food was truly tasteless. The dips with the poppadoms should have been the warning sign....just a bowl of chopped up onion, a bowl bland raita type thing and another bowl with some mango chutney from a jar.
I am from Asia and often cook curries at home from scratch and we all go out frequently to Indian restaurants in TW and London so feel I know something about how amazingly tasty Indian food can be.
My starter ( Butterfly Prawns) ...got one bland prawn in batter with a modicum of salad and a whole cherry tomato (wow,,). All 4 main dishes were truly tasteless. They simply plonked diced chicken in a sauce and served it so the actual chicken in every dish had no taste....and the sauces were Europeanised versions of a true Indian meal with all its wonderful aromatic spices and herbs and in-depth flavours.
My dish had 2 chillies against it on the menu (Goan Madras)... as I love hot food I chose that. I honestly think the chef forgot to add any chillis to the dish. And the same went for another main one of our friends chose and my husband' Pathia tasted like a Chinese sweet and sour with a dash of raw chilli powder . He spoke to the waitress about this and she did not reply except to say that is how the dish is He did not eat it.
I ordered Tarka Dhall which should be an aromatic blend of lentils topped with crispy fried "tarka" of onions and garlic. It was yet another dull, bland yellow mush with not one bit of Tarka on top.
Our meal was a huge disappointment from start to finish - really unauthentic, Westernised and tasteless. None of us will be going there again..
Bring on the delicious authentic food made in other local Indian...
Read more“Fantastic flavours” 4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2014 Tripadvisor We visited as a large party of 28. Given our size the restaurant did very well to look after us as swiftly as they did.
The menu contains the usual choices for an Indian but also has a nice chef's special section, which I'd highly recommend.
My group shared from a selection of dhansak, korma and garlic chilli chicken. All of the dishes had fantastic flavours with the dhansak having a suitable kick but not mouth numbing.
Service was good.
My wife managed to leave her phone at the restaurant, which we didn't discover until the next day. Whilst you always hope that such items are found it's still a relief to hear that the cleaner handed it in!

Read moreWe went here last weekend on a Friday night and was my first time visiting! First impressions sadly were not great. We arrived and the bar was full of dirty plates and glasses. This did not get moved for the whole duration of us eating. We sat down and there was a tray with dirty food left in the middle of the room, again this did not move til near the end of the night, and they just kept adding to this instead of taking this to the kitchen.
We ordered starter and main. They were rushing us as they were closing in 1 hour and then took away part of my starter when I was still eating and then served us our main plates when I was not finished my starter. The food was great, but service and professional...
