We visited the old crown off a recommendation from a shopkeeper in one of the shops we visited.

We received a warm welcome on walking in to the bar area and the various menus on offer were shared with us. Portion sizes were gently explained to us and the waiter advised on what he felt would be suitable for us.

A very traditional pub feel, warm & homely and it wasn’t busy on this Christmas Eve afternoon. I loved the ceiling wooden beams and made a mental note to ask how old the building is.

The ballroom restaurant was airy and spacious and well put together with lovely and understated Christmas decorations.

We asked to be seated in the restaurant even though we had ordered our meals in the bar area and it wasn’t an issue as we were ushered to the Ballroom restaurant.

I had the fish and chips and it was 2 plates of pigs in blankets & one plate of ham croquet for the young ones. The kids loved their food and said the ham croquet was the best they ever had. I enjoyed my meal and felt the fish could do with a little more seasoning but that’s just me. The chips were lovely and a very good portion size.

Reasonably priced with the fish and chips coming in at £20 and the three small plates at £20.

Definitely recommended and will visit again. The icing on the cake was a few punters having a go on the baby grand in the corner to make for an all round lovely...

Booked a table on OpenTable for 11:45 on Mother's day, when we got to the restaurant we got noticed but largely ignored. After asking to be seated, we were told they weren't quite ready yet. We sit down on a table next to the bar to wait and a fairly comical atmosphere where staff is frantically trying to get stuff ready (it's lunchtime, you'd expect them to be ready). No communication after that for a while so we decided to just leave the place. As we leave we were told that "we usually open at 12". Would have been better if they actually didn't take bookings before that time then. In my opinion seems amateurish at best, considering it's Sunday lunchtime on Mother's day. Plenty of better places nearby so won't...
