Every town needs a Wheatsheaf. Lovely old pub that used to welcome cyclists more than 100 years ago. This is a well-run attractive boozer that has sport on the telly and is popular with locals when there is a big match on, be it football, rugby or cricket. I reckon if you asked Geoff or Jo to put the Tour de France on the telly they'd do it for you after consulting their regulars. This is a much more inviting hostelry than it was a number of years back and an asset to the town. They don't do food but there are two pubs in the Market Place that do and there's a curry house just up the road. Anyway, not everyone wishes to go to a restaurant for a pint Faringdonians complain that the town used to have many more pubs, which is true, but there is more of a choice of hospitality within half a mile than most market towns these days and most of it better...
Read moreOur go to sports pub. Great array of beer, great hosts. When they are showing rugby (or that weird game where they kick a spherical ball), the pub is full of people having a great time watching sport. Sometimes they bring out sausages in a bun at half time. My son loves the place and is looking forward to being able to drink more than diet coke, in a couple of years!
