This was the second time I’ve been lucky enough to eat at The Twisted Tree. The first time was great and we went at lunch time. It was busy but they accommodated our family of four. We sat outside the first time in the tent but this time we came in the evening and were able to sit inside. I absolutely love the decor and the ambient lighting makes the dining room feel really intimate and special. It’s got a rustic feel to it with all of the wood and each table is different which really adds character. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. It was a special evening for me as I was meeting up with my two childhood best friends who I haven’t been out with since covid first hit.
The menu is small yet has something for everyone and I always respect a restaurant that has a simple menu because you know that those dishes are ones that the chef is going to cook well. I have found that a huge menu always leaves too much room for mistakes and chaos in a kitchen. I’d rather a chef be able to focus on just a few delicious dishes and make those dishes superb. Which is exactly what we got. I ordered the Cajun Salmon which is super tasty. It comes on a bed of boiled rice with some red peppers and mango on the side and the flavors of the Cajun seasoning with the sweetness of the mango is so delicious. If you have a sweet tooth like me, they have a mouthwatering dessert menu. Because the Cajun salmon is quite a light dish, I definitely had a bit of room left over for a slice of Honeycomb Cheesecake. This is a must try if you enjoy cheesecake! It’s so tasty and worth the wait! Overall I would say that The Twisted Tree is a lovely little restaurant with plenty of tables without feeling over crowded. The atmosphere is perfect and the food, staff and location is great. We will definitely be back, next time maybe for brunch!
Oh and I almost forgot, they have a shop called Twisted Vintage in the other half of the building (which used to be an old pub!) It is a really whimsical gift shop with all sorts of great home decor stuff, scarves, aprons, jewelry, seasonal decorations, greetings cards etc etc. Definitely worth a look if you’re eating there during...
Read moreToday was my second visit. I absolutely loved my first visit and have raved about it to everybody.
However today's visit for breakfast was not quite as good.
The food was excellent and beautifully presented, we both really enjoyed it. The thickly sliced bloomer bread is so good. Fried egg was perfectly cooked, soft and yolky but well done enough to not have any snotty bits. My dining companion had the smashed avocado on toast and said it was fantastic, she also commented that her pot of tea was perfect.
We managed to get a table for 2 despite not having a booking, it was a last minute decision to visit. Very happy to have got a table, however our table was in the conservatory and it was very cold in there. I also feel as it's slightly out of sight we felt a bit forgotten about and we certainly didn't get the fabulous attentive service I had on my first visit.
We would have liked to order more food/cakes and drinks however after our plates were cleared we had no further service or anybody visit our table or even come in the conservatory seating area for quite sometime. Got fed up waiting so left to go elsewhere for coffee and cakes. Had to go up to bar and request bill (I'm unsure if this is the usual way bills are done, previous visit it was definitely done at the table)
After such a wonderful first visit I had high expectations for today so although the food was very good I was a bit dissapointed my friend who I visited with for her birthday didn't get to see the outstanding service I had on that previous visit.
Sorry no photos. We were both very hungry and forgot to take any.
*5 star food
The food is very good so I am sure I will be returning and then hopefully edit the review as I know this place is more than capable of delivering 5...
Read moreWe've visited within the past few weeks and were left disappointed. Which is a shame as the place itself is a nice, friendly, cosy environment with an independent business.
Lighter bites: To start with, the lighter bites on the menu are way overpriced at £8.00+ then £1.50 extra to have chips and an extra £1.50 bit of extra salad/mango on your cajun chicken. You can buy a full main meal in almost any other restaurant for that price. It's bread, some chicken and spices, it cost's around £2 to make fresh, everyday. Most places charge 4-6 for something like this and they tend to come with chips or something similar.
The Coffee and Chocolate: These are reasonably priced and taste nice. I've had the indulgent hot chocolate and the cream it comes with is a bit poor (cheap can cream, that sinks right in, rather than gas cream you get at more branded places) but the chocolate mixture is nice and enjoyable. At under £3 this is a reasonable price. The Mocha's and latte's are around £2.30 to £2.75.
Cakes: £4.50+ a slice (around an 1/8th to a 1/6th).... It's nice but considering Bettys tea room (arguably the gold star of tea and coffee shop cakes) is priced at around £15 for the full birthday cake your prices are far beyond.
Overall experience: For two cakes and two coffee's I can walk across the road and obtain two fresh Sunday dinners which is a shame really.
Advice to the store: I suggest you look at your market and price accordingly to the area.
Edit: I made it obvious, the price is atrocious and ruins a perfectly good establishment. A standard sandwich on normal bread with a few bits of ingredients is not worth £8+. I know artisan exists but this is just bending people over the barrel.
You should go visit The Kitchen in Howden or Snaith to see what £4-8...
