We visited yesterday as a family of 7, having pre booked. We got there and were told there is no room in the soft play area - a disappointment but not something they could do anything about. We were seated and went to the bar to order. There was one person taking orders on a busy half term lunch time, which meant we waited 20 minutes in the queue to even give our order. The lady behind the bar suggested I pick other foods as they're on a 2 for £8 and I said no, my kids are fussy and would like what I've asked for. She said it's OK, and that two of the meals are in the 2 for £8 anyway.
We ordered, paid, and then sat down. 45 mins later ONE of the children at the table got their starter (the garlic bread, which the other child had also ordered but didn't come until the meal so we had one child sat watching another eat) An hour after we'd ordered we grabbed a member of staff and asked where food was. He said it was being plated up. 15 mins later we grabbed another remember of staff and asked where it was, and it came out a few mins later.
We dug in as it was almost 2pm and we were starving having been there since 12, and then we realised one of the burgers had been made wrong and was smothered in the wrong sauce (menu said burger sauce, one had the correct sauce, the other had bbq sauce which the person couldn't eat) We complained and the member of staff (Charley) offered to make another, but we'd had enough by then. He then offered to refund the burger. We went up for the refund and he noticed that the original woman who was the one pushing for us to pick from the 2 for £8 to save money, had charged us £20 for the ones that were on the deal anyway. He refunded it as a goodwill gesture which was really nice of him.
The baby change was covered in soiled nappy bags and one of the members of our party had to go tell staff it needed emptying, the women's toilet had no toilet roll or hand soap.
All in all it was an incredibly disappointing visit and has really put us off going again.
Props to Charley for pulling it back a bit with his friendly and...
Read moreI've been coming here for some years now, and it's an average place to eat, everyone knows it's not top end so it's never going to be Michelin star, however today's experience was quite shocking
The bad experience started before we even turned up. I'd tried to book online and wasn't sure if my booking was successful (turns out it wasn't but that was my error) so I'd rung to see if the booking had worked. Spoke to quite an abrupt person who said he couldn't see my booking, and he told me it probably didn't work as the restaurant was really busy. I did try again (I did it right this time) so went down to the restaurant. The place was a quarter full AT BEST. Bearing in mind, from the server telling me it was busy to me turning up was 15 MINUTES, My guess was the person I'd spoken to couldn't be bothered with more people turning up. Was sat at a table, next to another table that was full of dirty plates, that remained like that for a while. In fact, after looking around, many tables had dirty plates on. A server named Charley came to take our order, and actually yawned with his mouth wide open while taking the order. Not much in the way of manners either. Food was okay at best. Then ordered dessert, mine came half complete (cookie smores that had the ice cream missing) and a spoon that actually had the food from the last thing it was used for stuck to it. Honestly disgusting. I left the dessert. the server also didn't bring spoons with them, so i asked where they were thinking we had to go get them, she said she would bring them and then I'm pretty sure she forgot cos we were sat with dessert for nearly 5 mins until she returned. Why not just bring spoons WITH the desserts. The lady who was running the children's play area was nice. 3 people and a 50 quid bill that should have been £25 at best. Half the veg on the carvery was also empty.
Just a rubbish time from start to finish. I can't believe we paid 50...
Read moreMy family and I Spent our first Christmas meal out ever!!! And we’d chosen Brewers fair Turnpike Knottingley. To say we had the best experience would be an understatement! this restaurant exceeded expectations. Right from the get go we were greeted by their concierge (Tony) who we can’t say enough about!! Tony met us at the waiting are without delay, he was Dressed immaculately, his welcoming personality shone through right away. Tony offer to take bags coats and anything else he could help with to the Bar area as we were a little early for our table, He left us with the brilliant bar staff who proceeded to serve us with professionalism and warm welcoming manner. As soon as our table was ready Tony came to show us to our table being as polite and friendly as anyone could be. Tony explained everything to us as it was a first time dining out on Christmas Day. He went through where to go what to do regarding choosing our meets veggies ect nothing was too much trouble for him. The whole time we were there we observed other families receiving the same courtesy as we were receiving snd that made us feel valued as customers. The whole experience of the afternoon was amazing, fun filled with Christmas crackers on your table, every detail to make the day special was on offer to us. The food was fresh hot and delicious. Very well presented we had more than enough to eat great shout out to the chef’s 🫶 I can’t recommend the Turnpike Knottingley highly enough, it was everything and more than any of us expected. Our party of 11 consisted of 8 adults 3 under 2 years children and all of us left happy and full of the Christmas spirits literally due to Tony snd all the staff of the day. Big 5 STAR ⭐️ rating no question about it, we will now be avid customers to the Turnpike not just for Christmas but throughout the year! Kindest regards Mrs Sheena McGown...
