Lovely setting with amazing views... But unfortunately that is where it stops.
People are made to queue outside while there are plenty of tables available inside. So basically you're just stood there while you could be seated... Why? No idea! This seems to be the case any time of day.
Masks are preferred or obligatory, depending on what signage you read. However, staff don't wear masks... Which I find rather inappropriate, since staff are towering out above seated customers when taking orders and serving. I am all for masks though but then also expect staff to wear these (which they did at every other restaurant we visited).
Be prepared to wait. Don't expect to quickly grab breakfast (or likely any meal)... The bottle neck seems to be in the kitchen. Investment in the kitchen would definitely improve the daily takings since I saw people being turned away for breakfast before the actual cut-off time (can't be 100% certain of this but really looked like it). I actually tried going for a quick drink later in the day but also that was too much of a hassle so I gave up.
As to the food... The crushed avocado on toast with poached eggs wasn't brilliant. The avocado wasn't crushed but rather batch mashed with a dash of lemon in order to not turn brown (I assume because of the acidic touch). The avocado should have been a little cooler since in this heat the poached egg and avocado were basically at the same temperature and even the texture wasn't that different.
Service was OK but pretty much on autopilot. When I mentioned that people coming in after us were served before us I was told "you're food is on its way"... No apologies.
I really wanted to like this place. I wanted this to be our go-to place for breakfast, lunch and dinner...
I am being generous with the 3 stars. I would have rather given 2.5 stars. But I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Will this review change anything? Nope! The setting is amazing, the place is perfectly located and all the rest...
Read moreI love the coast. Nay, I adore it. Despite living on island, my nearest coast is an hour's drive away.
Whilst holidaying in this particular corner of North Wales, I was looking up beaches on Google Maps I could take my dog to and came across super nearby Traeth Llanbedrog.
The Aqua Beach Bar, as it turns out, is a real find! Located quite literally JUST up from the beach (the aforementioned Traeth Llanbedrog) and just downhill of a National Trust car park, this taverna is cosy, atmospheric and serves up fantastic food.
You enter the café over a tiny flat bridge that sits atop the little river trickling down to the sea. You can choose to sit inside or outside and they've got you covered for a little bit of extra warmth with some heaters you can turn on and off.
The service was always very smiling and welcoming, and the food was really REALLY good. You get an incredible view of the beach, even better when the tide is in. Also, very important to me, it is dog friendly and even has a little doggy menu. I went with my wife, her mother who is in a wheelchair and the dog; and we all had a great time.
In fact, we went twice. For lunch as well as breakfast. For lunch, I enjoyed the Trio of Fish. At breakfast I had the pancakes with syrup and fruit. Lovely.
So yes... dog friendly, disabled friendly, premier location and top notch food. What more can...
Read moreWe had really high hopes for this place as it’s in such a great location. We ordered some iced oat lattes to takeaway and they were really nice so we decided to go and have some food before we headed home. The service was friendly but fairly slow and poor quality - we waited a while for a table to be cleared and cleaned, but it was not very clean when we sat down. We ordered the vegan sharing platter which was £18 - fine if it’s plentiful or has high quality produce. The falafel has never met or heard of a falafel, they were 6 of the cheapest, smallest pre-bought sweet potato and red pepper bites (just say that on the menu), a very thick hummus which was actually okay, one tiny flat bread cut into 6 - not enough for the hummus, some olives and sundried tomatoes (these were fine) and a salad your nan would make you (iceberg lettuce, one slice of cucumber, one quarter of tomato and some red onion. Please let me know how to share a slice of cucumber between three.
Our two year old was still asking for dinner after eating it because it was so stingy!
I did raise the issue on payment, but the response was fairly awkward and unaware of how to deal with feedback.
For two sparkling waters, chips and a disappointing sharing platter the “that’s just £28 please” after my feedback was fairly poor.
Will probably go back, but only for drinks and...
