Beefeater Walston Castle — Restaurant in Wales

So went here about a week and a half ago as a random idea with the missus. I've passed this place a million times and had always given it a pass. Well I think I will keep doing that from now on. We got in and it was a lovely looking building. Only to be waiting at host point for almost 10 minutes before I walked up to go and get the waitresses attention who kept her back turned to us while on the pass after the chef had pointed out we were there. So walking up I find the manager/shift supervisor sat down hidden out of site by the tables near the toilets... now I supervise myself and I understand you have to talk and plans shifts but do it in sight!... So next came the absolute poor service. Our waitress who I can only describe and a plump girl as saying a big mess would be not so nice... but when you walk past your table purposely avoiding eye contact I don't know what you would expect. Just to remind everyone we were 1 of 4 tables in the entire place so she was not run off her feet at all. Just lazy with the work ethic of an Arabian prince... or an obese dole bum. So our food then sits on the pass for about 5 minutes as the waitress stands arround chatting with other staff. Eventually the food was brought the 6 steps it took to bring to us and then when it arrived i noticed the peppercorn i had ordered (admitedly slightly later) hadnt arrived... well guess where it was. On the pass while id eaten most of my mixed grill dry. Eventually the chef himself brought it to my table!. And guess what? the waitress(If you could call her that) was just stood chatting yet again. During the whole time, other than our drink and food order we didn't see anyone to check back on us. We didn't see anyone to offer us desserts(which we wanted) and I litteraly had to flag the women down to get my bill as she continued to avoid eye contact with me. Honestly. I've gone quite light on this review because I'm not allowed to say bad names but the names I have for that waitress and her attitude are beyond. I supervise in a resturaunts and have done for the last 4 years so I know a cancer to a business when i see one. And that waitress is exactly that. Just putting it out there the food was top draw... so good I walked up to the pass and gave the 2 chefs a tenner. Telling them the food deserves a tip but the service deserves scrapping. There was a black late 30s or early 40's man with a white guy id say early 30s with him... who cooked an amazing meal for me and the missus. It's a shame. Service here completely let me down and all because she had the attitude of someone that's too good to work... get down the dole office luv. There's better deserving people that will do the company...

We arrived looking forward to our meals - mixed grills, burgers, nothing complicated - and ordered at the bar. We were told food would take 20 minutes or so, maybe a little longer. No problem! We waited. And waited. And waited.

After half an hour we checked to see where our meals were. We'd bought two drinks each by then. We were told food would be "just a few more minutes". Fine. We waited and waited some more.

After 45 minutes we checked again. Food, we were told, will be "next out, just five or ten minutes". By this point I was getting frustrated. My mother in law is a diabetic and needs to eat regularly. By now she was feeling unwell. But we waited. And waited.

After an hour we asked again. We were told we were next to be served. I'd seen two other tables who ordered after us get their food since I last was told we were "next". Then the manager came out.

Apparently "the ticket machine was playing up" when we ordered and our order had been lost. She offered us a full refund and told us food would be another half an hour, but free of charge. We decided not to bother.

We took our refund and left. They didn't deserve our patronage, even for free. We left to quickly find something for my Mum in law to eat before she slipped into a diabetic hypo.

I am appalled at the service we received. If there was an issue with our order ticket. That means that every time we checked on our food the staff lied to us about how long it would take to arrive.

First visit here, and definitely the last. Shameful. If I could rate Zero...

Honestly the worst food ive ever had the miss fortune to pay for , not cheap at all ! not that was the problem !!! im more than happy to pay for bog standard food but this was not even bog standard , to say non edible is a compliment !

My partner ordered the surf and turf which came to approx £20, the steak which we asked for medium was cremated beyond belief ( could not get the knife through it and full of fat , could not chew it ) , it came with 2 gammy prawns and some bits of batter that was supposed to be calamari 🤦‍♀️ , the mac and cheese was the size a golf ball and stuck to the plate that needed to be scrapped off with a chisel .

My main that was described as teriyaki salmon , on a bed of a tomato salad and broccoli dressing and sesame seeds, this actually came with once again a cremated dry tiny salmon fillet on a few sliced tomatoes (the menu stated tomato salad! A few sliced tomatoes is not a salad!!! ) , then broccoli that was microwaved and was like rubber ,! There was no sesame seeds at all , the dressing was non existent just dry terrible food ( this was £15 🤣🤣, ) what a joke !

To top it off the rotten table out side we ate off was falling apart and had a rusty nail sticking out of corner and gave me a lovely little slice through my arm , after paying £50 for 2 plates of disgusting food and 2 drinks , i needed to go to a pharmacy to clean my wound , ive never left a bad review but this needed saying , dont not waste your money...
