Black Boy — Restaurant in Wales

Hello there I am here to inform any future visitors of this pub to STAY AWAY.Spend your hard earned money on a pub that treats you with good service and at a minimum respect. For many years me and family have had many lovely trips to the 'Black Boy'. However this evening we had such a terrible experience we wish to turn our backs on this beloved pub and never visit it again. We had qued 18 minutes to order our drinks and a child's fish and chips. Which was longer then normal but we dismissed the issue as it was a busy day. During our 1 hour and 15 minute wait for food.The couple next gave us these 30% off vouchers. This is when we unfortunately realised that since this pub was always empty.They had became so desperate they gave these food vouchers out to the locals. Cheap or not, when we were told after one hour we had to move tables we were far from impressed. Especially when 20 minutes later after finally having sat down and carried our drinks. - still without our fish and chips-The boy came and informed us that we would have to move again. This left me and my family simply appalled especially as we were still trying to hunt down our fish and chips! The table he then gave us wasn't even clean. I politely requested to speak to the manager hoping to at least receive a compensation for the hassle that had been caused. He rudely ignored this request and the manger never came and spoke to us. One toilet was simply a bowl of urine since it was blocked. So this my friends is a warning to you to never park your car for a charge of £1 and visit...

A great place for a meal with friends.

I had an evening meal at the Black Boy yesterday with 4 friends. COVID measures were in place, we signed in for track & trace, orders were placed from the table etc. It was quite busy but I could see where the staff had spread out the customer groups so that we weren't close to others. It would have been nice to have it more clearly explained when being seated that drinks were ordered via the online system with food orders taken by staff - there was a bit of confusion but, the few staff members we could see were clearly working flat out. The couple of staff members that we dealt with were lovely and all 5 meals were brought out quickly. Food was fantastic! I was the only veggie so ordered the vegan mushroom pasta. I'm often disappointed with the portion sizes with vegetarian options but that wasn't the case here. (see pic) I had ordered a side of chips but ended up sharing them with friends because the portion size of my meal was spot on. Everything was delicious, we all cleared our plates. Sports was being shown so that did make it a bit noisy, it didn't bother us at all (actually added to the atmosphere) but it would make me reluctant to take the kids if it was a game night. I recently had the pleasure of dining at a local restaurant/pub and was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience.
