Starred off good, although we were not told that there was a place to hang our coats until at the end of the dinner the server asked if we had jackets hung up. Well no, as you didn't explain there was any, so we had to have them next to us while we ate at a bank. With 6 of us and 6 jackets it was awkward.
Drinks were ordered, these came relatively quickly and we had ordered our dinner. We noticed that the two tables next to us who sat down after us had already had there starters, we had only ordered mains and ours were no where to be seen. Then both the other tables had their mains and still no food for us. I enquired to what the delay was, and they went to check. We were told they were just on there way! 8 minuets later still no food, we asked again and they came out with the food. One of the meals was stone cold, I complained that my food was cold, and was told your replacement was would be another 20mins. By which point we had waited well over an hour to this point. I said this was not ideal, I was hungry and I would like some food. I was told I could have a steak in 5 mins. I agreed and said I would prefer my steak blue rather than the medium rare they had offered. I was told a blue steak would be longer to cook! I agreed to wait and they asked what I wanted with it, without being handed a menu! I ordered what I could remember, blue steak, chips & a cheese thing in the wedge. They asked about a sauce and I replied without a menu I don't know what there is so none. They accepted this rather than offering me a menu, 15 mins later a steak come out with chips, no wedge to be seen. Wiater the comes back and says everything OK? Can I get you a wedge, I replied I ordered one. Ah OK. No wedge came....
When the bill arrived, they had removed my lamb and replaced it with the steak, no sorry or gesture, nothing!
Absolutely astonished I spoke to the waiter who said they would get a manager, I saw him speak to the waiter, the manager walked straight past me to the kitchen not even acknowledging me, not even I'm just in the middle of something I will be right with you. Nothing! We were shocked.
He then comes back, asks what the problem is and I have to go through it all again, he should have all the information already but no, I had to explain all this over again. And as I was doing so he kept interrupting explaining the side of how long the lamb takes and the steak to cook.
All I expected was an apology, some accountability for the lack of basic service and hot food! But I had to ask for the meal to be removed from the bill.
Personally for a restaurant of your calibre I expected excellent service as well as food but we barley got mediocre.
This was a special dinner for my in-laws coming over from Ireland to see my father who has terminal cancer and rather than being a happy occasion for us all to enjoy in a lovely surrounding it has been tarred.
Completely let down by what should have been...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with our visit to Miller & Carter in Killay, Swansea last night.
The floor (near where we were sitting) had food all over it and for the 2.5 hours we were there, it was left and had not been cleaned up. Disgusting!
I and my friends had to ask for Cutlery and Salt and Pepper which should be offered or brought to our table. Poor Service standards.
Two of us ordered Steaks and the food was brought before we had a chance to finish our Lettuce Wedge. When our Steaks arrived, I noticed none of us had our Onion Loafs (which is usually part of a Steak meal at Miller & Carter), so I asked the Waiter and he went back into the Kitchen and brought the Onion Loafs (for both of us) on a separate plate. I found this very poor that I had to ask for part of our meal to be remembered to our order. If we hadn't asked we would not have had it!
The quality of my Steak was poor, it tasted very Dry and not up to the usual standard of Miller & Carter ... I was disappointed!
When we ordered Desserts and they were brought to our Table none of us had any Spoons, so again we had to ask for them.
My friend ordered a Ginger Beer beverage, 20 minutes went by and no drink had been brought to our table, I had to leave my seat and look around the restaurant for a waitress or waiter to find out where my friends drink was!? She had clearly forgot and went to get the drink straight away. Poor service.
There was a lack of Staff on hand to serve us and there were small screaming children running past our table and around the restaurant being chased by an Adult (I would not expect this behaviour in a Miller & Carter Restaurant! This is NOT a Child's play cafe).
There were also other members of the Public turning up in Tracksuits, I thought Miller & Carter had a dress code policy? It just felt very chavy in there! And not the classy restaurant I am used to visiting.
The young girl serving us was lovely, but the general evening (as explained above) was very poor and not like or how a Miller & Carter restaurant should be like! I passed on my concerns to the Waitress who apologised and assured us she would inform her Manager.
We payed a total of approx £140.00 (between 3 of us) for this experience! Not the experience we were expecting or wanting!
I feel like I do not want to return to this particular venue and maybe next time I shall visit another Restaurant or go somewhere else all together!
Miller & Carter Killay .... you SERIOUSLY NEED TO UP YOUR GAME!!

Read moreMiller & Carter never fails to satisfy and impress. Every visit is consistently good. Every time you walk through the doors, no matter where the restaurant is, you know that you are going to be treated just as well. Always a gorgeous atmosphere with their red gas lamps, dimmed lights and luxurious glasses and silverware. Staff are always incredible. Professional and helpful. I feel like it’s one of the only places where the waiting staff take their jobs seriously, even if they don’t. (Who does, realistically! I hate my job too 😂) You’ll never see them standing around chatting or congregating. They are always attending to guests, cracking jokes, asking about your day, and giving excellent advice on the menu. Absolutely hats off to them. They really help make the experience feel like a luxury.
Nothing is too much effort for this place. Something isn’t on the menu on its own, but comes with something else? They’ll get it for you. Want your onion loaf extra crispy? It’s coming that way. They go out of their way to cater to their guests.
The Masters of Steak are truly that- Masters. In all the times I’ve been to Miller & Carter, only twice have we ever had to send a steak back. (Once for me, once for my partner.) Out of probably 50+ visits. Sending a steak back in any other restaurant would be met with some apprehension because typically if you send a steak back for being overcooked, the chef will send out the next one practically blue, and if you complain that it’s underdone, you’re getting a leather couch back. Not fun when you want a medium steak.
There’s none of this in Miller & Carter. Your next steak is coming to absolute perfection if your first doesn’t already, which is a rare event in itself. The steaks are great quality also, I’ve never had a really fatty or gristley steak. Fillet & sirloin always amazing. Don’t know how they train their chefs, but it WORKS. Compliments. Don’t forget to ring the bell and leave a tip!
Delicious food, (try the Camembert mash!) fab steaks, amazing cocktails, great atmosphere, exemplary staff.
Worth every penny and a tip on top.
A trip to Miller & Carter never...
