Castle Tandoori Chirk — Restaurant in Wales

The staff on arrival were friendly and welcoming but there was only two of them and it was quickly apparent they were struggling to serve customers in a timely manner. 20 mins in we got our drinks, 30 mins and the order was taken. The food unfortunately was poor to be kind. I do know my Indian foods having holidayed in India and lived in the Midlands for many years. I ordered a Chicken tikka Naga, which has a very distinctive taste from the Naga Chilli. When the dish arrived the rice was cold and had to go back to be microwaved? The curry itself was not much warmer. Upon tasting it , it was quickly apparent that no Naga chilli had been used but a lot of chilli powder had! My wife ordered a Massala with coconut rice. The curry was extremely sweet and the rice had just had desiccated coconut excessively sprinkled on it. This was our first trip out for an Indian since moving to the area and we had both been really looking forward to it. We had both worked all day and both extremely hungry. For this reason we both tried to consume the food served but soon wished we had not, my wife had a poorly tummy a few hours later and I woke up early the next morning very much the same. Travelled from Liverpool to Llangollen via narrow boat, tried several Indian restaurants stopping along the way. I'll be reviewing them too. For now though here is my review for Castle tandoori. The staff are friendly and polite, the premises are clean and no smell of damp etc like we experienced at Adyans in Llangollen. The food is excellent. Bajis were crisp and fresh and very tasty. The best thing about this place for me were the king prawn tandoori. The prawns are massive and meaty, with the tails left on, and the black line cut out. I was told I could also get them in the full shell too💯. The tikka masala sauce was thick and creamy. Outstanding compared to others we've been to. Can highly recommend this...

Absolutely superb. We are based just outside Chester, so about 20 mins from here. We used to go occasionally before covid, and went today for the first time since covid. It was absolutely outstanding. Amazing food, and fantasticly refurbished and good value. As a family of regular takers of Indian/Bangladeshi food, we all concluded that this is one of the best we've been to, and better than any in Chester. Great service, lovely people and amazing food.
