We had booked for an early Fathers Day lunch (not being able to do it on June 16th) and 4 of us were really looking forward to it. Very pleased with our table in the conservatory overlooking the Menai Straits. Service was ok albeit a bit slow for drinks ordering. I have Coeliac Disease and ordered a side salad and chips to be safe. Another in the party ordered a Caesar Salad with croutons. Another ordered the Dyl's Brisket Burger - not cheap at £21.95 This is where things started to go awry. Young waitress arrived with the Caesar Salad proudly announcing a GF salad - which it clearly isn't with bread croutons adorning it! I questioned why she referred to it as GF - and she said that I had ordered a GF salad - which I had but that was a cherry tomato side salad with no dressing and not a full of gluten Caesar Salad. Anyway, said salad was a little dry and the guest had to ask for more dressing - salad cream not available. My side salad arrived with loads of red onions despite me asking for salad without - just the leaves & cherry tomato - so I had to pick all the onions out. But worse of all was how dry the burger and bbq brisket was as well as the bread roll which was almost stale. Husband persevered with it but had to give up after only 1/4 of it - he called a waiter over and explained - then a man came over who I assume was the duty manager or GM - he said he'd get another one freshly cooked but it would take 15-20 minutes - we went ahead even though we all would be finished before it arrived. Husband requested no bun and burger only - meaning no brisket. 15 minutes later it arrived - burger & brisket - and of course we had all finished and he had finished his accompanying chips. It was still dry but not quite as bad as the 1st one - he only ate the requested burger. We saw other plates being taken away with 1/2 or 1/4 finished burgers/briskets. So there clearly was a problem with the grill chef that day.
There was no offer to take the burger off of the final bill and I was disappointed to fork out £86 on the bill - that's pretty high considering there was no alcohol.
It saddens me as I do like Dylan's generally and never been disappointed in the Criccieth branch - once disappointed before in Llandudno. And waiting staff need to know what they are serving at a table that has a person with a very serious 'food allergy' which is actually a...
Read moreWould just like to say before this review that I am in no way fussy or have unrealistic expectations about having a meal out but I was really, really disappointed with Dylan's. Had a reservation for 2 for an evening and we were so looking forward to good food, a good atmosphere and a fabulous view. The view was spectacular but sadly, that was the best thing about the evening. The welcome and hostess were lovely and we were shown to our table upstairs. Our order was taken within a few minutes after sitting down. The drinks we ordered arrived separately, a good amount of time apart. We were there for the local fish and seafood, so opted for starters and a small main. For some dishes, the menu had options for both starter-sized and main meal sized dishes. We chose scallops for our starters and a starter-sized mussels and starter-sized chowder for our main course. Despite reiterating this a couple of times, this was lost in translation with our waitress. We received one scallops starter and another did not arrive. When we asked a different waitress (our original waitress was on her phone behind the bar), she arranged for us to have another. Unfortunately, my friend had already eaten her starter by the time mine came. The scallops were lovely however the pickled vegetables that came with them was very overpowering for the delicate flavour of the scallops. I absolutely LOVE pickles but it was just too much. The mains were delicious, the seafood chowder was excellent, with huge prawns and a generous amount of seafood. The flavour and freshness of the mussels were divine however there was such a great deal of grit in them that they were inedible as it was hurting my teeth chewing them. Again, I am a huge, huge fan of moules marineres however it was impossible to enjoy them. I understand that the mussels are incredibly fresh and to expect some grit, but every single one I ate was just awful. The sauce was very good though. Baring in mind I had barely eaten any food, our waitress didn't ask us how our food was and we were brought the bill. £75 was a lot of money to spend on only one of us eating a proper meal. But, we're British so we paid and left quickly. Was hoping this to be a new favourite on Anglesey but I can't say...

The evening started very pleasantly with a warm welcome. As a family of foodies, we, alongside our daughter, who works within the hospitality industry as a restaurant manager in a city, were excited to visit Dylans's as we had read about their ethos of locally sourced produce etc. Both my daughter and l ordered the scallops which were fine, if under seasoned. We also both ordered the linguine vongole and were looking forward to tasting the fresh pasta made in-house. Unfortunately from the first mouthful, the dish was so incredibly tart and sour that it overpowered every other aspect of the dish. Sadly there was no check back from any member of staff so I called over Aled to let him know of our concerns, telling him that it tasted sour and that too much lemon been put through the dish. His response was to look incredulous and said that 'it does say on the menu it has lemon in it.' We of course are aware of the ingredients that goes into making a vongole but being met with his reaction that somehow we were wrong surprised us greatly. He then said he would ask the chef what would help cut through the tartness but did not take our dish over for the chef to try. He came back with 2 ramekins filled with butter and was told to put the butter through and that would make it taste better. Aled did not return to find out if it made the dish taste any better (it made it into a gloopy, oily mess) and when mentioned to the waitress she said it's good to have feedback as it is the first day they have served it. She offered no apology or attempt to rectify the situation, but just asked if we would be having dessert or coffee. As you can imagine, this horrified my daughter whose restaurant would never give this level of lazy, uncaring service. It did feel like it was a running theme with the staff to not offer an apology. There is definitely of little true care for the customer experience once food has been ordered. They do come very quickly to take...
