We were in Tref Y Clawdd for 3 nights and ate at the Horse and Jockey each night . Loved it every time. There were enough delicious things on the menu for us to try most of the dishes between the eight of us. And excitedly anticipate our evening meal after a day's walking Offa's Dyke. |Specially good were sea bass with chorizo, sizzling chicken [ dramatic presentation!] fish and chips. We didn't enjoy the tagine [ rather dry] or haloumi burgers [ bit salty] as much, but the cauliflower cheese was a good vegetarian option. lovely starter [ recommend the soups, mushrooms, prawns] and puddings too. Lots of good drinks, though I didn't want to try the alcohol myself|The place has a very happy and relaxed atmosphere, created by the young restaurant manger - she is a star! And extremely kind and sympathetic to me personally|The building is lovely too - an ex racing stables with candles in the horse trough that have been there thirty years. Maddy will tell you the history, if you ask. |It's not crowded and people stay there long after their meals or drinks are finished. it has a bar / snug that locals use, so it's not at all got the feel of an elite restaurant for blow-ins. Read moreOn Thursday 24 November our friends took us out for dinner whilst staying in Presteigne overnight. I ordered Beef Lasagna and my wife ordered a sizzling chicken dish. My lasagna was so dry and overcooked that I found it impossible to eat. The sizzling chicken dish presented to my wife was carried to the table belching smoke to such a degree that the entire room filled with smoke. Any sane person could see this had also been dramatically overcooked and was burnt.|I asked for my so called meal to be taken off the bill but the waitress decided that as I had eaten some of it (attempted to eat would be a better description) she would deduct the starter instead.|Not wishing to further embarrass our friends I reluctantly agreed to this course of action.|Had we been by ourselves I would have refused to pay the bill.|I felt sorry for the waitress who maintained a very cheerful attitude despite being in the hands of incompetent chefs.|The meal was a disgrace and the worst one I have suffered in my 78...
