We were in Tref Y Clawdd for 3 nights and ate at the Horse and Jockey each night . Loved it every time. There were enough delicious things on the menu for us to try most of the dishes between the eight of us. And excitedly anticipate our evening meal after a day's walking Offa's Dyke. |Specially good were sea bass with chorizo, sizzling chicken [ dramatic presentation!] fish and chips. We didn't enjoy the tagine [ rather dry] or haloumi burgers [ bit salty] as much, but the cauliflower cheese was a good vegetarian option. lovely starter [ recommend the soups, mushrooms, prawns] and puddings too. Lots of good drinks, though I didn't want to try the alcohol myself|The place has a very happy and relaxed atmosphere, created by the young restaurant manger - she is a star! And extremely kind and sympathetic to me personally|The building is lovely too - an ex racing stables with candles in the horse trough that have been there thirty years. Maddy will tell you the history, if you ask. |It's not crowded and people stay there long after their meals or drinks are finished. it has a bar / snug that locals use, so it's not at all got the feel of an elite restaurant for blow-ins. Also a great outdoor eating area. |As a hard of hearing person, I was also thrilled that it has a carpet of some sort [didn't look] which meant it was so much easier to hear [as a group of 7 or 9] than places with the dreaded bare floors and echoey walls. |Very well priced for the quality and...

On Thursday 24 November our friends took us out for dinner whilst staying in Presteigne overnight. I ordered Beef Lasagna and my wife ordered a sizzling chicken dish. My lasagna was so dry and overcooked that I found it impossible to eat. The sizzling chicken dish presented to my wife was carried to the table belching smoke to such a degree that the entire room filled with smoke. Any sane person could see this had also been dramatically overcooked and was burnt.|I asked for my so called meal to be taken off the bill but the waitress decided that as I had eaten some of it (attempted to eat would be a better description) she would deduct the starter instead.|Not wishing to further embarrass our friends I reluctantly agreed to this course of action.|Had we been by ourselves I would have refused to pay the bill.|I felt sorry for the waitress who maintained a very cheerful attitude despite being in the hands of incompetent chefs.|The meal was a disgrace and the worst one I have suffered in my 78...

I have only had the food here, but it was exquisite! Made me feel like I need to come back one day and try everything, it was so fresh and beautifully made! London food is put to shame, really and truly. Horlicks Brulé with a lemon shortbread biscuit. I've had a proper french Crème Brulé before, but I do have a sweet tooth. It was creamier and yummier by far. The cheesy chips even surprised me with their deliciousness. I wasn't a fan of the burger, but thankfully I'd chosen the steak and ale pie and it was phenomenal. Could not finish all of the chips and veg, wanted to, but I would have taken well over an extra hour and been stuffed. I'll be thinking about the pie and chips for years to come. Was a bit hot, but better than being cold! And the staff (one in particular, but I didn't get her name!) were so friendly! Made both visits seem like the perfect choice.

Went here for a meal at Friday lunch time with my wife and daughter. Arrived at about 13:20. Found a spare table. Pub was relatively quiet. This pub has a local, cosy feel. We ordered our drinks at the bar. After about 5 mins the waitress came to our table and took our order. We ordered the chilli Nachos for a starter. I had the fish and chips. My wife had the sizzling chicken and my daughter had the ratatouille. The starter arrived in about 10 mins. Very nice. Hot and tasty. 15 mins later the mains arrived. The food was really good. Everybody enjoyed their meal. Freshly cooked and hot. The batter on the fish and onion rings was really good. The service was second to none. I would highly recommend this place for a pint and some good quality food. Thanks guys.

The location of the restaurant was very handy for us considering we were staying at the hotel just up the road, so decided to go there for an evening meal. At the time of our arrival their restaurant was already shut and we were offered to have food at the bar. We chose the table which was standing where they previously had the fire place. My son absolutely loved it! You could see the reflection of yourself in the mirror ceiling. The meal ended up being very good. It was freshly cooked, a good amount, reasonably priced and we haven't waited long for it either. The lady, who was serving us was very polite and helpful. We have really enjoyed our visit there and definitely recommend it!
