Ling Di Long — Restaurant in Wales

Unfortunately had a horrendous experience here visiting as a vegan couple. I'm very concerned that the staff and chef do not have adequate allergen training, definitely don't risk visiting here if you have an allergy until they improve this. They could not confirm if the vegetarian dishes contained egg or milk without a lot of loud back and forth. We were initially told by the waitress that they have no idea if it's vegan, and the chef doesn't even know what vegan means. Turns out, after the chef came out to speak to us, one of the veggie dishes has oyster sauce in it making it not even vegetarian, and they didn't know the allergens of several sauces they buy in. We did get served food eventually after discussing this. However, the atmosphere was really horrible. We could hear kitchen staff shouting about "being on top of the food chain", and boasting about eating dogs and snakes. It was just really embarrassing and uncomfortable. The food also wasn't particularly great, the tofu could have been cooked better, but fine, we were grateful to be fed at least and that something seemingly vegan could be worked out. We normally go to Chinese restaurants because it's easy to get vegetable and tofu dishes, but this was one of the worst experiences I've had in years. I'm so, so concerned that someone with an allergy is going to get hurt if they can't educate themselves better, they should be on it. My friend and I visited for an evening meal to raise funds to support the work of Ty Hafan, the children’s hospice based near Caerdydd .Ling di long Chinese restaurantarranged a delicious set buffet. I enjoyed our starter of vegetarian spring roll, BBQ spare ribs, seaweed and crispy chicken wings with a sweet chilli sauce. This was followed by a main course of sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, beef in satay sauce and roast pork Cantonese style accompanied by quick fried mixed vegetables and egg fried rice. I didn't have room for a dessert having enjoyed such a variety of dishes, all freshly prepared and well presented by welcoming and helpful staff. Food was lovely, in fact its delicious to be fair.. but, without sounding picky, which I'm not, it needs a clean. Carpets looked as if they needed more than just a clean, and the waiting area really let the side down. The window was filthy too.. It's really not a great first impression to give someone who is about to purchase food. Another thing is that while the staff are helpful and friendly they fall short in appearance.
