Do not be fooled by the good reviews!

Myself and my partner are Gluten and wheat intolerant. It was a hot day and after reading the glowing reviews we decided to take a trip to this place. Upon arriving it seemed a lovely, quaint and clean restaurant/pub.

We sat ourselves down and had a look at the NGCI menu which means (Non Gluten Containing ingredients menu) All seemed fine, I got to the bar to order our food and the lady who was friendly and polite couldn't use the till to process the order.

I ordered a regular mixed grill and an upgraded mixed grill for £3 which seemed great. The lady brings the starters over which were okay at best.

Then the bar maid comes over and tells me we haven't paid the extra £2.00 for pepper corn sauce which we paid and then she came over again to inform us the sauce isn't gluten free despite it being on the NGCI menu and didn't give us the £2 back which we didn't care about but it was a sign of things to come.

So after all this we were ready to leave, But after spending £40.00+ on 2 meals, starters and a pint each which we thought was great value for money we stayed hoping the mains would be fine, how can you mess up a mixed grill?

My regular mixed grill came and the chips weren't gluten free, I had a mini chicken breast, a cut of stake that was so small it was like it had been cut off with scissors, Sausages which also turned out to be Richmond which aren't gluten free and onion rings which the chef also couldn't confirm were gluten free. But the upgraded mixed grill had huge pieces of meat which my partner offered to me insistently as he couldn't believe the difference in the sizes and cuts of meat.

I'd also like to add that my partner who has been a chef, Bar manager and now works in the hotel industry was completely appalled at the level of incompetence and carelessness shown by the chef and staff. They are severely lucky neither of us had an allergic reaction ... just upset stomachs and a large appetite as we couldn't eat what was served to us for fear of being ill!

There were no apologies offered, No compensation. All the while we could see from the insect littered windowsill the chef chain smoking outside in tracksuit bottoms and a jacket coming in and out of the kitchen . Not once wearing chef whites.

Current Gluten free labeling legislation Regulation EC 41/2009 was published in January 2009 and came into full effect on 1 January 2012, This establishment has clearly violated this law by advertising a NGCI menu yet serving gluten containing foods off the menu which should never contain gluten!

I loved this pub had many family meals I even had my wedding after party here and my birthday party's and abervirsy meals and as a treat would stop for food but not now the new owners were so snoty and picky it was unreal my mother's birthday party they really put a downer on they was a buffet and we brought drinks for the kids that was arranged an as I was driving home I had a coffee that took 30mins to arrive I later became thirsty so had a sip A SIP of my wife water and was accused of drinking vodka it's on the cameras I've been seen they been watching you that said I quickly put them straight and the constant reminder of 9pm kids to leave got tireing very quick oh and the kids were messing with the toilet brush now I didn't see this but wen I went to look they was no brush. Waited 40 minutes an undercooked starter (wedges with cheddar and bacon) wedges were hard. A further 30 minutes passed as we waited for our mains. 10oz gammon steak with chips, topped with pineapple, complementarily soaked/saturated in a vinegar like liquid. The chips again were harder than the devils toenails and the egg was dripping in grease! Failed to mention at the start that we ordered to large pepsi's, ended up with tinted soda water... bar staff failed to notice this and continued to serve this. I returned them to the bar and that issue was resolved. The place is relatively clean, but the music played; lets just say its not always for 'before the watershed'. Overall result, not impressed! A place that Marstons brewery should be ashamed of. The left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing! Massive word of advise, read the reviews on act on the...

This dogs home is now shut. No pubs in mochdre now.May 2023, shut again. June 2024. During the last couple of months an employee at this pub has taken to regularly parking on the pavement outside. There is a large car park and on road parking, which is ignored. As this action blocks the pavement for the people actually living in this area, the workers at the pub should not be surprised to hear that an increasing number of locals are disgusted with the attitude shown; and will certainly never use the pub.

Nice little place for pub food, came after a trip to the zoo with my partner on bank holiday Monday. Both ordered fish and chips and it was really nice, light batter and decent chips. Service was spot on and the blond woman with the fringe was lovely. Reasonably priced, £25 for 2 pints and 2 dinners. Would recommend
