I'm honestly disgusted in the way we were treated at this restaurant. The way we were made to feel because we had a baby with us who was happily playing with a toy was totally unacceptable. So up until the starters everything was going fine, until the front of house female came to our table and asked could we stop our 7 month old baby to stop playing with her toy as it was too loud. So for context this is at 5pm and the restuarant is full off children with the noise level already being elevated that comes with a busy restuarant. Whats the toy she was playing with you may ask that was causing such a noise issue, a drum set maybe? A trumpet? No, it was neither, it was a rattle!!! A wooden rattle. We were in total disbelief after this and so asked for the bill as no parents should be made to feel that there baby is doing something wrong by contently playing with a toy at the table. It just so happens it was the table next to us that had decided to complain but say nothing to us directly, which was apparent when they was leaving and the conversation with the front of house female, at this point I felt that I should ask what the issue was and why were we being made to feel ostracized. At this point the male of the table who complained clearly felt embarrassment of being called out publicly and could only respond with aggressiveness, to which I responded appropriately without any violence, but myself being off the bigger stature I was immediately identified as the problem. We were asked to leave, thats ok, not a problem we were leaving anyway. But just when we thought the treatment couldn't get any worse, literally 2 minutes after being asked to leave, as we were getting our things together, a male and female security were at our table again saying to leave, which we were in the process of doing, but packing up with a baby isn't an instant process. Whats the main objective of any door supervisor? Its too difuse a situation, but clearly it had been a quiet day, especially for the female as she proceeded to make derogatory comments when we were already leaving the premises. No parents of a young baby should never be made to feel like this at any time but especially not again in this restaurant. To prevent this I suggest the following to the Oyster catcher. Don't advertise as a family restuarant if you are unable to accommodate the noise that comes with a family, how would you deal with a child who may be screaming down the restuarant crying, Iet alone a baby happily playing with a rattle Learn how to correctly approach any such situation. Maybe offer an alternative table to either party and not instruct parents to tell there child to be quiet. When there are multiple tables in the restuarant with children making equal if not more noise. Employ new door supervisors who are able to appropriately assess a situation and deal with it accordingly. Dealing with a family with a young baby does not require the same approach as dealing with a group a young lads who are under the influence of alcohol. How do you think it feels being escorted out in front of a full restuarant when we was already leaving on our own accord with the female door supervisor making unnecessary comments.
Looking back and evaluating this situation I can only come to the conclusion that it's a case of discrimination, due to the fact of my partner having a foreign accent. There is no other justification or reasoning of the behaviour displayed by The...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to our visit to the oystercatcher, after reading such great reviews and the very interesting menu online. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed. The location and restaurant are absolutely stunning, and it is brilliant that it is so dog friendly. Most of our food was fine. We particularly liked the crab cakes, the pea bhajees and the chowder. The biggest disappointment was the Moules Marinier. Although an enormous portion, served in a delicious creamy sauce, the whole meal was unsafe to eat as the mussels hadn’t been washed carefully enough before cooking in the sauce. As a result there was a lot of grit in the meal. Worse still, halfway through eating, we found mussel beard floating around in the sauce. This is a food poisoning risk. We told the waiter who was very apologetic and took it back, although I don’t think understood the significance of the situation. On the way we were aware of her having a lengthy discussion with the manager about it. At the end of the meal we asked another waiter for our bill, but were surprised this still included the mussels. When we explained we wouldn’t be paying for this, the very apologetic waiter checked again with the same manager and did remove this item from the bill. I am disappointed though that the manager didn’t seem to take this incident as seriously as I feel it should be treated. At the very least the item should have been removed immediately. Both waiters were very apologetic but it should not have needed to be explained to two people, especially as the same manager was obviously aware. I’m not confident that the feedback will be shared with the kitchen in order to avoid this happening again and making someone ill. As a specialist fish restaurant, I would hope they would know the...
Read moreWent to celebrate a special occasion as the restaurant itself is beautiful. The prices have raised substantially since the last time we were here and the online menu has not been updated. I ordered the gnocchi and was really looking forward to it because every gnocchi dish I’ve ever had has been amazing. It came out and the gnocchi was deep fried and dry, alongside big mushrooms and artichokes. The waitress asked if everything was okay before I got a chance to try it because I made a start on a side of fries. The dish looked appealing initially but was greasy and not seasoned at all, the gnocchi reminded me of the outside texture of a tater tot. I ate most of it because I was really hungry but in the second half of the plate it was sinking in how awful it was. I left a third of the dish because I couldn’t bring myself to eat it. I asked to speak to a manager at the end because of how awful it was, the kitchen needs to know it is not even close to proper gnocchi. He said I had the opportunity at the beginning to send it back(although this was before I had got to try it) and I acknowledge that I should have sent it back when I tasted it and knew it wasn’t up to par, but I didn’t want to be rude or waste food so I tried to convince myself that it was okay. The manager wasn’t receptive and defended the food but said he would tell the kitchen. We ended up getting ten percent off the bill and I left the restaurant crying because it was supposed to be a nice, special occasion (we don’t get to go out for food often). Very upset about the whole experience and I will not be recommending this restaurant in the future to anyone. The first time we went I had a burger that was just fine.
TLDR: very expensive bland food,...
