I’ve been meaning to do this review for some time and as friends are staying locally in the near future I found myself googling this place again to copy the link so I could recommend it to them.
We came here in September for a weekend away (although we stayed elsewhere) as we were supposed to be getting married. We had our dog with us so I was keen to email in advance to ask if he would be allowed. This was no problem and we sat in the courtyard with the dog. Now you might be thinking it’s bleeding cold in September, it is, however we were provided with blankets by the restaurant to keep us and the pooch nice and warm. Something we didn’t expect, which we were very grateful for.
The food, well it was amazing. Fantastic burgers great taste and they were huge which was above our expectations. It was also reasonably priced, if anything they probably could charge a little bit more! Staff were really friendly and engaged in conversation, helped having the dog with us as we shared our stories about our own dogs with each other.
Overall it was a great experience, will definitely go there again if we decide to visit the area again. 5 stars and...
Read moreWe picked the Cawdor Arms for dinner after a solid day of hiking as the reviews looked very promising. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the building is lovely. There was a lot to choose from across 3 menus. My partner and I ordered a cheese board (£15) to share and a burger each(£17.50e). The cheese board was lovely! Phenomenal value for money, it was a meal in itself as the portions were very generous, you would be hard pushed to put together similar yourself from a supermarket for any less. Unfortunately both our burgers were underwhelming. They were ungainly sized and filled with a lot of fillings that made it impossible to pick up and eat. My pork burger had shredded bits of raw, tart apple, soggy onion rings and pulled pork which I suspect wasn’t made fresh and didn’t taste of much. And the patties in both our burgers were very bland, chewy slabs of meat lacking colour from the grill. The chipped spuds that came with tasted just like something from my 90s school dinner experience. A smaller and more refined plate of food could have made it an...
Read moreHad an excellent experience dining here on a bank holiday Sunday when most places in town were shut. We were thinking we'd have to settle for takeaway/pub food when luckily we found this restaurant. The food was fantastic, especially the vegetarian options which really did exceed my expectations - the cocktails were good too! Prices are a little higher than you might expect elsewhere, but not too crazy, and once the food arrived we felt we'd actually had a good deal as it was all really tasty. The staff were friendly and professional (especially the lovely lady who was serving most of the time in the courtyard). Great atmosphere, you can either sit inside and enjoy some fantastic historical photos of the town, or enjoy the sun in the courtyard. We liked it here so much we came back the next evening, thanks for adding a great dining experience to our...
