Staying in Llanwnda we decided to walk to the Rise and Crown for Sunday lunch. They open from 12:00-2:30pm. We got there just after they opened and had freedom of choice of table. The staff are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. They had choice of roast chicken, beef brisket, or leek and feta tart for the main meal. We ordered the tart, which came served on a bed of mashed potatoes, with roast potatoes and parsnips, a large Yorkshire pudding, and a jug of gravy. A separate plate with veggies to share consisting of buttered sliced carrots, Savoy cabbage, and broccoli cheese. I also had starter of garlic mushrooms on brioche. This was delicious. The mushrooms came on top of the brioche bun with a garlic cream sauce liberally poured over. The veggies with our roast were perfectly cooked, tender but still with a slight bite. The leek and feta tart was small-ish but very rich and tangy with flavour. The veggies were good quality too, with good character and flavour. I was hoping to have a pint of hand pulled local Welsh beer with my meal, but they only had beer on electric tap. We both ordered the Shed Head, an American style Pale Ale originally brewed by an independent Swedish brewer called Back Yard, now owned and brewed by Carlsberg-Marstons. It was delicious, but I prefer to eat and drink local if at all possible.

This has been a really disappointing experience as I've always considered The Rose and Crown to be the best breakfast in Fishguard and Goodwick. Today, the chef arrived late, both my wife and I had finished our tea and coffee before an overcooked breakfast was served to us. The bacon was so overdone that the cutlery wasn't up to the task of cutting it, no condiments were offered, or refills of our empty cups. When I asked if more bacon was available my wife and I were given three pieces that were OK, but mine came with added plastic! I've no idea how the quality of the breakfast has diminished so badly, but everything from the overdone (bland) sausage and being served margarine just felt like a poor effort. On paying my wife was offered an apology and then told that the back bacon was actually gamon?? Even if it had have been gammon, it would still have been returned!

The location is very good just up from the railway station. I'm afraid that's the only good I have to say about our stay there. We stayed before taking the ferry to Rosslare. The room is in need of maintenance. The plastic laminate on the wardrobe door was falling off all it needed was some contact cement to repair it. The handle on the shower door was hanging off. The corners in the bathroom were dirty and needed a good scrub and repainting or grouting. We also went into the restaurant. Here the floor and the table were sticky. The food was mediocre at best and yet it was priced as if it was gourmet. They don't give a good impression of Wales at all.

Decided to come here for a meal after seeing some good reviews on tripadvisor, other people had posted pictures of the food and it looked good.

However when our food came there was a lot of disappointment across the board. Specifically, with the seafood tagliatelle and beef brisket.

One of the party had seen a nice picture of the beef brisket online which was the reason why it was ordered, however when it was put in front them it looked entirely different, the addition of warm pickled onions was also very strange? The seafood tagliatelle was by far the most disappointing meal that i've ever had anywhere. I am not exaggerating when i say that it was very literally just plain cooked tagliatelle pasta and small unseasoned pieces of seafood - there was no sauce, no garnish and no seasoning whatsoever... it was so disappointing, especially since it was £16. I could have cooked way better myself for much cheaper at home. In no right mind could anyone with any care and awareness would charge that much for something so underwhelming and tasteless.

The service as well was also bare minimum, the staff were friendly but not once did they come back to check on us after they gave it to us, nor at any point did they asked if the food was alright when they came to collect our plates. They only asked us if we were finished and then put the desserts board on the table. I think some serious staff training, both FOH and BOH would be very beneficial to the business, and some much needed care and awareness to what you're actually serving to your guests would...

We booked here for a few nights break as we haven't been away for a while & from the photos it looks quite presentable.|When we arrived, we went into the wrong door as it's apparently two buildings in one, but no signage to say so...|We were shown to our room by a lovely young lady & left to get on with our stay. However, the first thing we always do is a room inspection! The sheet & pillow cases were stained & there were black hairs in the bed 🤮.|Next, the blind was broken & as my husband said, downright dangerous if a child happened to be in the room. |The en suite was really grotty & dirty & the ceiling was covered in black mould. The carpet also looked & felt like it hadn't been vacuumed.|It was so bad that we went straight downstairs & asked for our money back. For some reason, the card machine that had just accepted my payment was now refusing to refund it. I had to wait for the owner to refund me from his bank account which I was promised he would do immediately after checking the room.|Over an hour and a half later, I had to call them back & ask what was happening about my refund to be told that it was being sorted. I let them know I was NOT happy at having been kept waiting so long & either they paid it or I would be contacting my bank. About three minutes later, the young lady called to say that the refund had been processed & could I check that it was in my account. Which it was. |All in all, an experience I do not wish to repeat - we'd paid for a day's parking for that debacle too because parking...

The most horrendous room I have ever stayed in. To start with the positives. Check in was fine and meals in restaurant( breakfast and evening meal) very good. As for the room....this is where it goes down hill: room very dirty behind headboard. Filthy in fact. Liquid hand soaps/ shampoo/ conditioner all had barely an inch of liquid in bottle. This made us feel like we'd been put in a used room even though we hadn't. Damp on ceiling. Only one bed light working. The other one had no pull string. Both were full of dust and dead flies. Plugs hanging off wall.VERY dangerous. Fire door at bottom of corridor jammed open..dangerous plus causing much of the noise problem. Now for the worst point...THE NOISE!!! We were in room 6 directly above bar of sister pub "Hope and Anchor". Music blasting out all evening, loud drunken voices swearing into the evening. Music on Sat stopped at 1.30 am. Either they want a B&B or they want a noisy pub...they cannot have both. Such a shame as restaurant was great but no effort on satisfying overnight customers with their rooms. I feel the house keeping and maintenance REALLY let this place down! The furnishings are lovely, just not cleaned by the house keeping. We stayed all weekend and not once did house keeping call to see if we needed our bin emptying, fresh towels or bedding or anything replenished. Appaling service from house keeping. The restaurant staff however...
