If you’re craving authentic Halal Kerala-style cuisine in Merthyr Tydfil, Salt and Pepper Restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere made me feel right at home. The food? Simply outstanding.
Went for friends family gettogether , tried several dishes, and each one was a delightful explosion of flavors.
The starters with chicken momos were fantastic , didint like chicken 65 though(felt like more coloured). And kids were so fond of chicken lollipops.
The Paalkappa was creamy and comforting, perfectly spiced and true to its traditional roots. The Beef Roast was tender, juicy, and packed with rich, aromatic spices that left me wanting more.
The string Hopper paired beautifully with the Chicken Stew, which was fragrant with coconut milk and subtle spices—a true Kerala classic. We even tried string hoppers with coconut milk and sugar for the kids who were sweat toothed.
And let’s not forget the Kappa Biryani! This unique dish was a revelation—soft, flavorful tapioca paired with fragrant beef and spices. It’s a must-try for anyone looking to explore something different. Ghee roast was nice with typical sambhar and chutneys . Seasonal fish curry was so yummy with sea bass.More sort of blended in cocunut milk. And it can go well along with porotta,(tupical keralas flaky bread). Chicken kothu porotta, was nice and quickly finished in seconds. Lamb roast we tried was also good . Their duck roast stood out as well with the porotta. Puttu(steamed rice cake ) was sos softand nice and was perfect to go with beef roast, which was swmi gravy type.
To top it all off, their tea was the perfect end to the meal—rich, aromatic, and just the right level of sweetness. It’s no exaggeration to say it’s the best tea I’ve had in a long time!
We finished off with dessert , fruit salad, icevream with brownies..
Very spacious ,wont feel like congested at all, even we went as a group of 15 and kids. They have a pool table for entertainment.
The service was impeccable, with staff who were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is also spotlessly clean, which added to the overall great experience. They accept cash and card.
Very pocket friendly shop. Even after we tried everything bill was really slim. They even gave off 20% discount coupon for each family for next visit. Free parking in near by street. Easy to find even from busy traffic.
If you’re a fan of Kerala cuisine or just looking to try something new, Salt and Pepper Restaurant is a must-visit. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of their menu. Highly...

We started our day trekking at Pen y Fan in freezing cold weather, and while descending, we craved good food, especially something reminiscent of Kerala cuisine. A search led us 20 miles away to Salt n Peppers South Indian Restaurant, which only opened at 5 PM. We freshened up at our hotel and eagerly headed there.
The experience was worth every mile. We started with tea, a must in the cold, which was so refreshing it lifted our spirits. Then came the main dishes: Parotta, duck roast, chicken biryani, beef fry, and beef roast—each authentic and bursting with flavor. The staff and owners were incredibly warm, making us feel right at home.
Hearing about their Christmas combo, we couldn’t resist returning today on our way back from Pembrokeshire to Coventry. The combo included appam, cutlet, beef stew, rice, chicken roast, beef roast, fish vattichathu, cabbage thoran, and palada payasam. Every dish was beyond delicious, making this the highlight of our trip.
We truly wish they’d open an outlet in Coventry or somewhere nearby. Until then, we’ll recommend this restaurant to all our friends traveling to South Wales and can’t wait to...
