Not a bad little venue, but would think twice about returning for an event.
Went for a work's Christmas do and were seated upstairs as we had a large group.
The venue's decor is quaint and musically themed with sofas and a wood burning (enclosed) fire. Tables and seating are pretty basic but do the job, albeit a little uncomfortable for longer periods, but I suppose that's what the sofas are for... which are quite welcoming and nicely placed.
They did have a solo live entertainer (singer with a guitar) who was pretty good, and was more than willing to take requests and allow diners to get up and sing. This I feel, helped make the night out.
As for the food, it was a Christmas do so the menu was changed from their normal burgers to Christmas dinner so I can't comment on their traditional offerings, but I definitely won't be running back for more. Sparse, over cooked, and soggy was the general impression from a small plate piled high with everything stacked on top of eachother meaning nothing could hide from all the juices covering everything (I don't like soggy potatoes and Yorkshire pudding).
The meatball appetiser was very nice, though it did leave me wanting some bread or something to soak up all the delicious sauce, and the sorbet desert was very sharp, but went down well.
The drinks menu was a real pleaser with something for everyone, although even the simplest of drinks (Coke) took an age to prepare and arrive even though there were cans in the fridge at the bar.
Unfortunately, the venue is set back a bit from the road and the layout of the surrounding area means the nearest parking area is a few streets away so it might be tricky for disabled access.
I don't know about downstairs, but the toilet facilities upstairs were shockingly bad. I can appreciate that keeping it spotless is impractical, but it looks like it hadn't been cleaned in a while with tissue paper and 'bathroom wetness' (water and urine) pretty much everywhere. There was a sink, but no wash or dry facilities which is pretty poor given the current climate of cleanliness and hand washing.
All in all, I would go back, but ONLY to try a proper Sloppy Joe's burger, not...
Read moreThe service is great, staff arent really up for chit chat but thats understandable as the place is always very busy when i have been. Theres a sign that says free hugs but whenever my son asks for a hug the staff members serving are always very reluctant, which i understand as im not much of a hugger of random people either but maybe better to remove the sign or nominate a willing staff member to be the daily hugger. The food is great but could do better with better kids food options. The only real issue for me is the layout as there aren't any highchair height tables downstairs so i have to go upstairs but there is no lift so i have to carry the pram up the stairs. Would be nice to have a few normal dining tables downstairs.
Response to response: my stars are based on an average of food, service and atmosphere. I only gave three stars as carrying a pram up the stairs is a real issue for me, i understand people can help but it is a hindrance especially as it's usually very busy so staff are often preoccupied. Also I'm not a fan of eating outside or on high tables or low coffee table style ones. This is just a personal preference though! So I don't tend to eat in anymore just takeaway. Having a table downstairs and being able to just sit down and not mess about would make me an even more regular customer and the stars would go up as that really is my only big issue. But it does not stop me from coming in. On the hugs, the girl who rejected Corey's hug was not the first person to do so but it's not a big issue, just maybe not the best sign if not all...
Read moreWe arrived after booking although they had no recollection of our booking but it was fine because we were seated straight away, half an hour passes and no one had even asked us what we wanted to drink. A manager asked us if we’d been served and we said no and then he went over to tell two servers that people need to be served. 5 more minutes passed and then the girl that sat us down said she was on break and didn’t realise no one had served us alright it seemed like she was lying. The worst of it all was that this girl had her mask on around her chin and a further 8 members of staff half behind the counter and half servers were not wearing masks at all! Someone brought our food over and got really close between us without a mask and I felt really uncomfortable. When our food arrived it took a further 5 minutes before our drinks. By this point I was really hot and flustered and I couldn’t bring myself to eat much of the food or drink and the two of us left. It’s safe to say I will not be returning to this venue again. It’s such a shame because I’ve walked past this place many times and it’s always full and looks appealing. May I add there was 8 members of staff with no masks singing and talking and walking around so it’s very hard to believe they were all exempt seeing as only one had a lanyard on. I also think the way the owner has replied was very rude as I was only being honest. This has cemented me not returning, I wouldn’t eat...
