1st visit for the four of us adults & a 1 year old. Food was lovely so I will give 2 stars but £16.95 for a Sunday lunch main only in comparison with nearby places we found overpriced. (Old Barn Inn offers 3 courses for £20.95). We asked if they had a children’s menu, they do not. They said they can do a smaller portion of Sunday lunch for £6.95 but then changed the price to £8, we brought our own food for our 1 year old just in case so decided to stick with that as we felt they were not keen on doing children’s food so I wouldn’t say this place is family friendly. They had a Sunday lunch menu on the table, we were not informed they only did Sunday lunch with no other options when booking. We finished our drinks & not once did any staff member ask if we would like another. We finished our mains, they cleared our table & we weren’t approached again so no desert menu offered or asked if we wanted the bill. We sat there a while but no sign of anyone approaching so we decided to go to the bar, asked to pay for our meals & we left. Sadly disappointed & will not be returning.

It was a very nice evening with friends at this lovely cottage looking pub. Forget the renovations going on outside. As soon as you walk in, there is a warm feeling about the place. Service was welcoming and friendly, and the pub had a good selection of beers, ales, continental lagers & soft drinks, etc, for choice. The menu was not basic however there is a good choice of meals from Beef, Chicken, Prawn & Pork plus the classic Fish n chips, in various cooking styles for you to find something of interest for your palette. The food was served hot and of good quality with plenty of it but not too much, and all plates were returned empty. Our waiter was attentive but not overly so, and served us in good time. The atmosphere was nice & warm and the amenities were of a good standard with soap & hot water. We will be returning here on a future date, thank you were much.

This is a local restaurant for us so we thought we would try it, the staff are very well mannered, however it's very hard to actually get them to the table, when we were present the restaurant wasn't busy but we still had to go to the bar to ask if we could place an order, the menu is very limited and is basic foods, however that reflects in the price, for a main meal it's £6.95, I ordered the liver and onions, the liver was cooked to perfection however it was let down by the rest of the dish, the mash tasted like it'd been reheated, it was very dry and tasteless, the onion gravy was lacking onions and taste, the two people I was with were a bit disappointed also as there food wasn't great either, to receive our food we waited 45 minutes, all in all I personally wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a nice meal out.

Booked here as my son has just recently moved to the area. I try and be honest in my reviews, this one will take a bit of explaining.

We arrived at out time and was shown to our table. When ordering drinks we made the server aware of allergies and initial response was very positive. We ordered our food, making sure one sirloin has no seasoning and cooked well done. When the food came, the server said one of the sirloins would be about 3 or 4 minutes because they had to clean the griddle. When we looked at the steak it was bloody, so naturally assumed it was not the well done one. One of the burger dishes had an option of fries, we ordered paprika fries, but received plain fries. When the server brought the last steak out she pointed out that she has already brought the allergy steak out. When we pointed out that it wasn't well done, they agreed to cook another one. We were advised that there was no more sirloins but they had a rump, we agreed to this.

We waited ages, which made everyone uncomfortable especially as others had finished their meals when the final meal was brought out.

We were advised that we would get a drink or sweet FOC. This is the first place where we were served skinny fries with a steak and fish, can't say this was to my liking. If I wanted skinny fries, I could have gone to Mc Donalds

The sweet menu choices were poor, with very little choice.

When we went to pay they did as promised, not charged for one sweet (Ice cream), but charged for 2 sirloins, although we ended up having one rump!

Staff were kind and place was welcoming. I feel bad for only giving 2 stars, but as in other reviews I do, I end by judging, will I call again, in this instance,...

Hi I don’t usually write reviews. But Iv had time to think about it and I want to share my experience , my sons girlfriend booked a table a week in advance at the castle inn caldicot for my sons 30th birthday ,we were a party of 17 ,and we had sent in a list to of pre orders as requested ,. the staff were accommodating to let me drop off his cake on the Thurs eve , and I also popped in quickly to drop of balloons on Fri on my way home. Where I was shown a table , to be honest I didn’t take much notice as I was in a hurry , on arriving that eve. We had been allocated 2 tables either side of the toilet door , as you can imagine it was not good. It felt like our family’s were split , with people walking constantly between our party to the toilets ( not there fault ) the starters had some missing , so people had to wait , others had finished before these were brought out , my main course was missing altogether , eventually getting what I thought I had ordered only to find it was hunters chicken , I sent it back , ended up with No food as everyone else had eaten and finished , getting to the bottom of the missing dishes , it looks like the list that my sons girlfriend had sent over was not printed out in full at the pub end , and was not checked by the staff when were were all seated to make sure it was correct , I can’t fault the food , everyone enjoyed what they had. But the service was terrible and also to sit us on 2 separate tables was unacceptable , we made the most of it in the end , by all moving to one after food was finished But I I would just advice people if you have a big party., Check your seating arrangements and make sure your preorders menus are correct. As they...

From the time we walked in both the staff and the ambiance were welcoming.

The menu is perhaps not as extensive as some other places but there is plenty on offer, especially when you add the various specials board options.

A professional and polite waitress took or order swiftly. We ordered the horseshoe gammon, the half-chicken and a side order of onion rings. Both mains came with chips and salad.

At the risk of sounding like an employee, I have to say I was tremendously surprised at how enjoyable the food was. Generous portion sizes and we had not long to wait, although it is fair to note we were the only patrons eating.

The only negative I could possibly point out, and it really is a minor negative, is that we struggled to find their opening and food serving hours. Perhaps they should consider adding their hours to google and/or put a sign outside.

All in all though we were more than happy, they really deserve to be busier than they were. The food was good quality and the environment very welcoming, it is clear the management are really making a driven effort to give a good customer experience. I have no doubt that in the coming winter months we shall endeavour to return to enjoy more from the menu and a few ales by...
