We are regulars at the Garth and it’s always a great experience, book in advance if you want a table in the bar or restaurant but there are walk in tables available too, quite limited though inside but there’s usually plenty of space outside, weather permitting of course. All the dishes are good and Sunday lunch is great, the menu gets refreshed every now and then. Deserts are very good. Also a great range of drinks from mainstream to local, including ales and ciders. The car park carvery is good on a Sunday, where you can get a meat roll roasties and gravy to eat in/out or take away. There are also events organised every now and then, a particularly good one is the sausage and cider festival in September with 2 days of live music, sausages, guest ciders and ales. Landlord and staff are always friendly and welcoming and go the extra mile. A must visit if you’re in the area.

I drove up from London with my girlfriend as she was visiting family and friends in the area, and we stayed at the Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn for three nights over the New Year period. Absolutely loved the place, warm and friendly atmosphere, open fires, fantastic selection of beers/ales and all food (lots of it) was excellent, best breakfast ever and I’ve eaten a few. Room was spotlessly clean, warm, and cosy with very big comfy bed and decent hot shower. Had a fantastic New Years Eve celebration and the local folk could not have been nicer to a London lad. The surrounding area is beautiful and if you can make the walk-up Garth Mountain the views are stunning, even in the rain. We will definitely be going back in the summer. Thank you to Rob and all the staff, we had a fabulous time and cannot thank you enough for your hospitality. G&S

All i can say is this place is a little gem in the hills, the rooms are very clean and pretty large the bathroom was a decent size and 1 thing I loved about this place that it was peaceful, couldn't have any food in the pub as its closed Monday and Tuesdays but can walk in to the village that has plenty of places to grab something. The customer service was 5 star I can't say a bad thing about this pub and would recommend anyone to nip in for a pint, food or even a cheeky weekend away. Would like to do a massive thank you to Maggie who was amazing and also cooks the best breakfast in Wales (I will argue anyone who disagrees with me to the death) Thank you for the lovely stay and will be staying again (hopefully soon)

Had dinner at the restaurant. Lovely pub, great selection of local beers. Starters were delicious - ox cheek scotch egg was banging. "Scallop" egg souffle dish was delicious and creative, although probably would have preferred the same dish but with actual scallops. Mains were unfortunately a real let down on flavour - style over substance. The sea bass was nicely grilled, but the dish was otherwise very bland - no seasoning on the fish and very little on the ratatouille. The pesto was more of a herb oil, and just a dribble round the plate was a disappointment. Mash similarly underseasoned. Rack of lamb was nicely caramelised, but overcooked on one side. Jus however was very good. Baileys cheesecake was a bit bland (not much Bailey's flavour), but the base was nice. Service was surprisingly poor - warm, but really not very attentive at all. We arrived a bit earlier than the rest of our party, and were seated but not offered drinks. We had to ask to order drinks each time, one time getting up to ask the staff after failing to get their attention for 5-10 mins. Empty glasses also weren't really cleared during the meal. Appreciate we were a table of 8 and all had different mains, but it was over an hour and a half from when we ordered to when we got our mains. We also found the restaurant quite loud despite not being overly busy. The menu is probably too big - could lose a dish or two from each of the starters, mains and desserts and focus on quality. I had high expectations from the reputation, and although not overly expensive, the food isn't cheap. Didn't live up to the hype sadly, and was expensive for...

Bar staff lovely and very attentive. Food would have been lovely. I was unaware that there was a car park at the rear of the pub and parked in the narrow lane outside ensuring there was sufficient room for people to pass. Indeed I sat in my car to watch 3 cars passing me without problem not even having to slow down. I also pulled in my wing mirror. My food was served and as I was getting up to get condiments when the owner asked if anyone had a car like mine. I said yes he then advised me that the neighbours and villagers were complaining about my parking. I said I had parked as close to the wall as I could as I needed to get out. He said you could have turned around and parked the opposite way. I apologised and asked if there was a car park. He advised me that there was and that there was space in it. I immediately moved my car but the process took approximately 10 mins. My partner was concerned by the length of time I was taking and left his own meal to come and see if I was OK bringing all my belongings with him which was obviously seen by everyone. When I got back to my seat I was left to enjoy a cold meal eating on my own. The owner didn't even come and speak to me or offer to keep my meal warm or re heat it. I was left feeling like a naughty school child eating a cold meal! Surely this could have been handled better? It spoilt what would have been a lovely time at this lovely old country pub. Obviously they do so well it didn't matter to him how I...

Abysmal service. Staff incredibly rude. Booked a table for two for 2pm on a Sunday and what a mistake. Seemed to catch them completely by surprise when we turned up at 1.55pm despite having booked days beforehand. First person we saw stomped off leaving us standing there without saying anything when I gave our name. Next person told us to wait in the bar while they were supposed to be getting a table ready, but they were more interested in seeing that their friends were being seen to. Left after half hour of being made to feel as though we were in the way with staff pushing passed because there was nowhere to sit. Can’t comment on the food because we didn’t get to sit down let alone eat, but if it’s half as bad as the service I would seriously avoid. Despite a member of staff asking me to come back as we were leaving, there was no apology for being treated this poorly. Ended up trawling the shelves of Tesco for the dregs on a Sunday afternoon. Not an enjoyable experience. Should really be no stars but at least we left without wasting money on eating. Extremely disappointed and annoyed because we’d heard and read good things about this place and don’t mind paying if the food and service is good but won’t be wasting our time going back only to be made to feel like an inconvenience and...
