A Feast Worth Twenty Years
Tonight was something truly special.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love food—especially curry. For the past two decades, I’ve been part of a very exclusive curry club. This evening marked our 20th anniversary celebration.
Over the years, we’ve wandered the spicy trails of South Wales, sampling curries in countless venues—some unforgettable, others less so.
To mark the occasion, we turned to our favourite chef: Sam of The Spice Ambassador, in Taff’s Well. And he absolutely delivered.
Every course built upon the last, a crescendo of flavour and fragrance. The aromas were intoxicating, the meat melt-in-the-mouth tender and soaked in rich, complex spices.
Now, I’ve never been particularly keen on fish curries, but the homemade monkfish creation Sam served tonight... I’d call it a culinary epiphany. An utter revelation. It changed the game.
Sam himself is a gem: humble, gracious, deeply knowledgeable, and burning with passion for what he does. He treats every customer like an old friend—but tonight, he reminded us it’s no act. It’s just who he is.
This was, without exaggeration, the finest meal I’ve ever eaten.
Roll on our 21st...
Read moreI didn’t want a starter so my wife ordered chicken pakora, they didn’t have it on the menu but said they could do it. They brought a large bowl of it and 2 plates with salad on, I said I’m not having starter and before the young waiter could speak the older gentleman said just try some. My wife said it’s not like what she had before which is chicken in batter, so I tried some and it tasted like a paste in batter it deafinately wasn’t chicken pakora. My wife’s main meal was 10 out of 10, mine was 2 out of 10, there was Brad beans in there and the chicken was tough, I did mention the chicken and the broad beans, he said they were Bangladeshi beans and walked off no comeback on chicken being tough, I left half of my meal, my wife was so full after eating half so she asked to put the rest of her food in a container. When the bill came I was charged for 2 chicken pakora that wasn’t, £8 for a pint of squash with tap water and 1 bottle of lager, £1 for container, total £51. Overall nice young waiters who do a good job, but manager using every trick to get more money from you. I won’t return, I had visited before twice on both ovations there was discussions on...
Read moreTwo of us visited here for the first time on the recommendation of a friend who has been coming to this restaurant for over 25 years. It did not disappoint. We shared the speciality Tandoori Scotch Egg with a rich salsa, followed by Captain Pathilla lamb and chicken Jalfrezi accompanied by pilau rice and a Peshwari Naan. Although we had eaten more than enough, we were tempted by the pistachio kulfi with saffron sauce, so shared one to try it. The food was fresh and inviting with the controlled heat allowing all the flavours in the dishes to be savoured. Pleasant surroundings and prompt, efficient service from the friendly, attentive staff added to the experience. Will definitely be returning and spreading the word about this gem of...
