Having been to many Wetherspoons around the UK, this local one is familiar to me, but I haven't had food here for some time. I opted for a standard mixed grill, where the first impression was not too good. The meat content, lamb sausage, sirloin, and chicken, were all quite black and obviously scorched. As I had asked for rare steak and not cajun, it was a disappointing sight! The other meal we ordered, was a medium rare 8oz sirloin, again, clearly cooked under a very high flame (see pic) as it too was black all over the outside, more rare inside than med rare, which suggests the cook has little knowledge of best ways to cook steak. Another clue regarding the ability to cook steak, was the waitress, when challenged regarding the overcooked fare, stating that the cook had said that, because the steaks are so small (6oz) they can't be cooked rare. I've never heard such nonsense! The 8oz steak was warm, not hot, but pretty black on the outside, as if put on a very high heat for 3 or four minutes. I did get a replacement meal, after refusing to accept the cooks excuse regarding portion sizes. The appearance of the food was definitely improved however, it was not particularly enjoyable to eat. The lamb sausages seemed to be very similar to value pork sausages, the steak was thin and dry as was the pork. The chips looked unappetising but, were quite nice, as was the mushroom. The 1/2 tomato was warm, had signs of being placed on a hot surface, but could not be described as 'cooked'! In the end I had to 'throw in the towel' and leave around 40% of my meal, as it was not entirely inedible, but I couldn't say I enjoyed much of it. I really dislike giving such negative reviews as this, but the standard of food preparation did leave a lot to be desired, however the service was very polite and efficient, even if the waitress made an attempt to excuse the performance of the kitchen. The beer was what I expected it to be, tasty and enjoyable, the rose was also...
Read moreApparently when you have a Fried egg with your breakfast and it's overcooked, you've got to tell them you need an egg that is actually soft and runny, Sunday 27th of July three women staff rude arrogant and apparently do not understand that food when it's overcooked is overcooked, tried telling us that if we want an egg that is soft we've got to tell them by the bar, amazing isn't it how we are regulars every single week never a problem if food is overcooked just replace it, if you have a fried egg and you dip your chip into the egg and the chip breaks and there's no yolk on your chip that means your egg is overcooked they are so absolutely backward is unbelievable, in fact there was people sat in around by us who eared the conversation completely agreed with us and said exactly the same thing, the side orders of black puddin and hash brown was on a separat plate which was left on the table while they took the plates away to cook new eggs, and obviously the plates were left under the hot plate therefore the beans went dry hard also the bacon we then add a refund, not only that the original server tried to explain to us we need to tell them we want to runny Egg then the next person brought the plates up to tell us exactly the same thing who was like the manager I'm assuming, just won't go there no more not a problem, I've worked throughout the country always go to Spoons never a problem, yes bad food, eat it or return it refund not a problem, these took it to the absolute extreme I will put in the former complaint in they need customer...
Read moreIts very rare I rate a business 1* however on this occasion due to the appalling attitude of the manager and staff I think its actually generous.
I am currently working away from home. Yesterday my girlfriend decided to surprise me by coming to visit me. Her train arrived a little early so I asked her to go to weatherspoons and pick a table while she waited. After messaging me the table number she went to use the bathroom and I orderd her a drink through the app. On her return I recieved a message explaining her table had been taken by 8 people that she had advised the bar but they replied sorry we have delivered your order, she was also told to go ask the table for her drink. (Just to put things into perspective the table was a group of 8 males who were intoxicated).
Feeling intimidated she text me saying she would wait outside. When I finished work I was told what happened. Confused I went in and spoke to the manager. During the conversation another member of staff shouted over. "Yeah she's left now" disgruntled I asked if he thought it was right that someone should have drank a drink they didn't pay for and his reply was "well you should have checked the table before booking!" I asked what he was going to do about it and his reply was "nothing ".
My issue isn't with the venue, facilities or weatherspoons in general. If you look at my previous reviews you will see I've always given good reviews for other venues. My issue is with the appalling attitude of the staff who clearly have no care or interest in customer...
