Having had a lovely complimentary cup of coffee and desert a few weeks ago I and my wife decided to treat ourselves to a full Saturday night dinner at the establishment on the 22nd April 2022. Orignally the booking was just a general one but upon consideration ,since my wife's mother is elderly and not in the best of health, this was quickly changed without any problem so we could seat in a less populated area- in the lovely "library" dining area- to avoid any riskof contracting Covid which would have detrimentally affected my wife being her mother's carer. Our order for food and drinks was taken and provided quickly. For starters I ordered the mushrooms which were delicious- in particular the sauce- and this same comment equally applies to my wife's olives, ciabatta etc For mains, I had the Dexter Burger with the usual side orders which was very pleasant and a little surprising- first time I had tasted warm coleslaw and my wife had ordered the mushroom risotto and this is where my review is perhaps less encouraging. It was immediately obvious to me and my wife that the dish of food was very poorly presented. There had been no effort to separate the ingredience and it looked as if the food had simply been "dumped" on the plate. From the look on her face I knew something was wrong after my wife had taken only a few mouthfulls and I was surprised that she did something she only does extremely seldom with her food-sprinkled quite a bit of salt on her meal. Upon asking her what was wrong she reluctantly mentioned the food was both cold and tasteless. Whether it was this or her overall dissapointment over what was supposed to be an enjoyable and long awaited night out- for the same Covid risks as already mentioned we had not dined out since the first outbreak-she mentioned she felt a lttle unwell and it would be better for as to return home to Guilsfield, Welshpool. I have known the lovely new owners for a long time and I hope thay do not think that this review is any way a personal attack on their competence or ability. They have done a marvellous job in a relatively short time and I trust the slight "hiccup" and my comments can be taken as a positive going forward and they have my and my wife's very best wishes for the future. One further comment. Upon bringing the matter to "Sarah's" attentioin on the night and despite offering to pay for the drinks, the starters and my main, she would not hear of it. She very patiently listened to our point of view before suggesting there would be no charge. I have no idea what it must be like working in the very pressurised environment of a busy restaurant but if things do not always go to plan I think it is the way such issues are dealt with which if anything may be more important. Sarah dealth with the matter brillantly ( and I do not say that because I did not have to pay!!!) and she needs to be congratulated and the restaurant admired for employing staff like her. Kind...
Read moreVery historic inn! Upscale & renovated room was above pub. Beautiful room however very small & compact... shoebox style. Ladies take note... the bathroom in these rooms are not meant for ladies. They are definitely a bathroom designed for gents. The shower is very tiny & God help you if you need to wash your hair. There is a water saving feature on the shower head & consequently little to no water pressure. So unless you have a brush cut which I don't, it will take you approximately 25 minutes to get the shampoo & conditioner out of your hair. Now...let's move on to the razor... don't even attempt it unless you wish to risk slicing your legs/underarms to bits! There is virtually no shelf space in or out of the shower, so be prepared to have your toiletries on the floor. Be careful brushing your teeth as there is a small glass shelf housing the small bars of soap, inn toiletries & glasses directly above the taps. So when you bend over the sink to rinse your mouth, you will smash your forehead into the shelf. To say the water pressure in the sink is forceful would be a masterpiece of understatement. Be extra cautious when turning on the taps as your clothing will get soaked if you are not careful. The room itself is beautiful with exposed barn board beams, etc...but I never thought I would say this (being a woman) but the room is beautiful but highly impractical. If you choose to stay here, try to book a room at the back of the inn because we were located in Room 4 which was on the road side & it was very, very noisy. We were unable to keep windows open due to noise. Food in the restaurant for supper & breakfast was quite good. Lots of flies though because windows are open. ...
Read moreAfter visiting for Sunday lunch today with my husband and two year old daughter, I am nothing short of stunned at the way we were treated. The chair my husband sat on was covered in Cranberry sauce (or some sort of red sauce) which ended up all over his brand new cream T shirt. We understand that these things happen and didn't want to cause a fuss, we did however want someone to note it had happened in case it didn't wash out and we needed to be reimbursed. A female who claimed to be the bar manager (she is actually the owner) came to the table in a defensive, abrupt and extremely unhelpful manner. We were made to feel like we were "trying it on" and felt extremely embarrassed when her partner or husband, the co owner then suggested my husband take off his T-shirt in the middle of the restaurant so he could wash it and leave in the snow half naked. Its honestly comical! They could of just apologised and made a note of it in case the T shirt was ruined. It actually came out in wash with some vanish and they would of never heard from us again had they just been decent humans. I never write negative reviews (this is actually my first ever) because I know the impact they can have on businesses however, I am hoping this may make the business owners of this establishment consider how they make people feel and remember that caring about people, making them feel heard and being warm and friendly is basics in any ethically run business. Having shared this with a few close family members and friends I now know its not an isolated incident and the lack of care for how they speak to people is common knowledge in the community. We certainly won't be...
