Panka Walla — Restaurant in Walsall

One of the most disappointing takeaway experiences I’ve had!

After seeing all the positive reviews of this place, I felt like I should give it a go and had high expectations, unfortunately my takeaway didn’t live up to expectations.

Firstly, the positive’s: really good sauces with the papadums. Yoghurt/ Chilli and Mango. Spicey chips were also very good – fresh with a good seasoning.

Now the not so good. The Paneer Tikka wasn’t a tikka dish. Lots of large bits of onion and some paneer which wasn’t that great, really bland and I didn’t see anything that looked like a Tikka dressing on it.

The Naga Chilli Lamb – No seasoning (first time I had to actually add salt to a takeaway). Quite a bit of sauce with a few strips of lamb. I didn’t taste any spice to it, even though it was meant to be a hot dish.

Allo Gobi was OK. Again, lacking in seasoning.

My overall take was the food was really disappointing. Maybe an off day for the chef but I felt it’s more a place for ‘white’ people – few beers/ glasss of wine and nosh down quick a curry without really being overly bothered about the taste. There are a lot of pubs in and around Walsall that do much better food.

Sorry, my first and last takeaway...

The fine dining experience and food from here is second to none for eating in, (normal idian menu). They have recently added a new fast food kind of menu which inc a range of burgers (100% Angus beef), pizzas, kebabs, deserts and milkshakes. I couldn't wait to try this so i had kebab meat and chips, pizza(margarita), cheesey garlic bread, wings and chicken kebab in naan. I got to say I was pleasantly surprised since panka walla really specialise in curry dishes. Everything was spot on, loads of flavour and delivered hot. Even had 20% discount on order as its a special offer at the time of order. If I'm being picky and I mean picky I'm not sure of the doner kebab meat as it may lack flavour if not dressed in there sauce and onions, but that's it. We'll worth a try, and dining in is a must as place is spotless, homely, staff are really friendly and can't do enough. Delivery driver was pleasant also. Just an add on, just been recently and the place is still spot on. Spotlessly clean, staff excellent and food is beautiful. I believe they've taken the pub over now too and do a slightly different menu like mixed grills. Can wait to go back and try. Well done mabs,...

Really lovely small restaurant. Can probably only seat 25-30 people if full with 7 tables in use I think I remember correctly.

Does not serve alcohol so own alcoholic drinks to be taken.

Upon first view the outside makes it feel run down but when you get inside it's beautifully decorated and a lovely atmosphere. Lights dimmed and a fake fire on the TV.

Food: Bit of miscommunication on the food I feel as we had the poddadoms but normally these are just for the table whilst waiting on the starter it meant we were waiting for our starter for a while as the servers were waiting for us to finish the poppadoms and dip. Once we asked for our food everything was swift. The food was lovely and well cooked. Owner is fabulous. He is warm and obviously well known and liked in the community talking to every table. The other servers could in my opinion take some tips from their boss as they seemed more subdued. Highly recommend great...
