First things first, the 4* for food is because they don’t offer hot food and don’t want to confuse anyone. They do however offer delicious fresh cobs/rolls on the weekend and the crisps are giant grab bags nom nom nom.

The Whimsey is a place I first visited a few years ago under different management and tbh I can’t remember much because I was sloshed. Anyway it’s reopened with new management and it’s now become my favourite local. Plenty of drinks to choose from. Extremely friendly staff who go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

The building is very old but in very good shape. It’s clean, surprisingly roomy yet has a great atmosphere. The locals are typical of the area and are very friendly and welcoming.

There’s your traditional bar area to sit yourself or you can go round the corner and sit in what used to be the snug (presumably). There’s also an extended bit that has comfy couches. The garden is cosy but very well kept and private. Plenty of tvs to watch football on or the music videos and there’s always some sort of entertainment being planned. The prices are very very good considering some of the other pubs in the area but for me it’s the bar staff and locals who will keep me coming back. We recently booked a room with Stephen at the Whimsey, for a family gathering after our mother's funeral service, with the buriel just around the corner at Willenhall Lawn Cemetery. Stephen was so understanding to our situation and spoke with us a few times prior to check exactly what we would like. The Whimsey supplied all the catering which consisted of soup & sandwiches, curry & rice, also tea & coffee, at a very reasonable price. We had the whole pub to ourselves from 1-3pm, until he opened, however we could stay as long as we liked. We would like to thank Stephen and all at the Whimsey for making this day so special. We totally recommend this venue for any...
