Where to start? Turned up and they had lost the booking and so wanted to give us a table for 4 for 6 people. Was asked to order at the bar whilst a table was made ready. Whilst the utterly incompetent barman was trying to get out drinks (forgetting how many we has ordered before charging us - 6 people, 6 drinks maybe?) the man who greeted us and was supposed to be getting our table ready asked if we were being served. After starting our drinks and still not being shown a table we went and asked again about it and were led to the opposite side of the restaurant, as far away from the food as possible. Whilst being asked if we knew that the carvery only had beef. Well, no, we've been waiting ignored at the bar After waiting another 10 minutes we went to find menus as the carvery tickets and menus we were promised failed to turn up. We were told that the menus / carvery tickets took a long time as he was sorting another table for people who had been waiting longer than us - but who weren't waiting when we got there... Strange... Ordered food and waited again. And waited, and waited. Then two meals arrived. No cutlery to eat it with though... We asked for some. Then we waited another 5 minutes. Then two more meals arrived. Still no cutlery. But just adults so far, the three year old couldn't understand why he wasn't getting anything when the adults were. Then another meal arrived - for the three year old , with cutlery. But the first meals were now cold, and we were still one meal down. We asked as the waitress didn't give the 6th member of the party any cutlery to eat with (the waitress dropped it on the floor, but didn't bring any replacement and didn't pick it up either). We asked and were assured the last meal was ready. After another 5 minutes or so we saw the waitress serving food to another table. At this point we gave up getting all of the meals and decided to just leave. When we complained and said this we were told the child's wrap was coming. It was an adult pie that was missing. The child's meal has arrived (second to last, but it had arrived). The manager refused to give us his full name so that we could write a letter of complaint about the truly abysmal levels of service. 1 star as I'm not sure I could give 0 for...

We entered the establishment to no greeting, eventhough there was an attendant stood right next to us. A server did finally arrive to greet us and proceeded to talk to my partner, eventhough I was the closest to her. When she spoke to her colleague (the one who didn't want to greet us upon arrival, she was wearing checked trousers) about if there were any seating in the restaurant the colleague bellowed that there was only a 6 & a 4 seated there.
Before we had even taken our coats off the server asked if we wanted any drinks.
We were given our drinks by a server whom basically slammed them down and with her hands too, which I thought was strange as they are preaching covid precautions but handling my glass with no gloves or even the tray is a bit weird for the times we are currently in.
A table of girls were seated next to us and they were asked if they wanted drinks or needed a minute (guess they deserved the extra minute or something) after waiting a good 5-10mins after being seated and given our drinks, a server went to the table of girls to take their order.
While they were still deciding the server decided to acknowledge us and reluctantly take our order. After the order was taken the server with the checked trousers then came over to ask if we our order had been taken yet, which it had by that point, but by her reaction I guess it was lucky for her coz she expressed her joy by saying awesome.
The table we was sat on was not properly cleaned as there was sauce under the candle which is placed on the table. And there was a dead fly sitting on the windowsill next to us also.
The server with the checked trousers had just served drinks to a different table to which she had a pen in her mouth for which she took it out to take the order of a different table now for people who are handing drinks with their hands I don't think touching a pen with their own saliva is the best thing with covid.
To add insult to injury as we were leaving the girl with the checked trousers decided to give us the most enthusiastic goodbye with just cemented the fact that I will not be back...
Read moreSadly this is the first time I’ve been so disappointed with a meal that I’ve left a bad review anywhere.
We went to the Heathcote this evening, me my girlfriend and her two parents. It was the first time eating out since lockdown ended and given that there is currently 50% off food we expected things to be busy so booked a table for 17:45. We ordered our food at 17:55 and the starters did not come out until 18:40. I ordered garlic mushrooms and was disappointed to receive collectively one full mushroom (4 quarters) but the staff were attentive and returned the dish to the kitchen and brought out a replacement that was satisfactory.
However, after having to ask the manager where our mains were, we were served them at 19:20 and the lasagne I ordered was not the usual portion I have received previously, and the first mouthful was of undercooked mince clumped together, I attempted to eat it but the whole dish was undercooked. The rest of the party were not satisfied as their dishes, although edible, were over cooked and dry. Sadly no one came to check whether we were happy with the meal so there was not time to send it back, but having waited so long I would not have been prepared to wait again for another dish.
It is with great upset I write this as we have been regulars at the Heathcote for a number of years and I personally have never had a bad meal until now. Sadly I feel the kitchen let down the rest of the staff this evening and the only saving grace was how kind the front out house staff were about everything, it was visible they were worked off their feet but they were dealing as best they...
