visited the restauraunt on a tuesday evening, 4 of us at around 7pm. there was no other table for the whole night. Starters came out and were still frozen, we brought it to the waiters attention, who immediately sorted the issue and 'hot' food was presented.
The mains arrived (4 different dishes) accompanied by sides and naan. Tikka Masala chicken was rare, uncooked and may aswell of ran around on the table.
we only mentioned this at the end of the meal, when asked how i food was. I mentioned to the waiter that the chicken was raw and his reponse was, i quote "yeah the chef does that sometimes" in absoloute shock, i replied "i'm sorry, so this normally happens" to which the response was: "it does happen". we later find out that the chef is the owner/manager and cooked the food. going back to Martin Weatherilt review below, to which the owner responded "all our food is cooked fresh". I am in high doubts of that. considering our starters were frozen inside and being delievered raw chicken, it was a real shame as the other dishes were of good standard and tasty meal, but was spoiled by ridiculous excuses.
The manager even decided to come out with his pan to show how the chicken was cooked. £87 total bill (set menu / banquet night) agreed after 15/20 minutes of debating his chicken and paid £65.
All in all, considering we were the only table in the restaurant and that i had been here on previous occassions with no issues, it was a bad experience and i will not be returning - cooked food should be the priorty of every chef. the following day, two of us were off work due to the stomach cramps constant visits to the...
Read moreThis was voted best Indian in Watford 2018, if thats really the case, I won’t be trying Indian food in Watford again. The food was not fresh at all, the waiter even mentioned to us there were no lamb chops ready as they were in the freezer. We ended up ordering things we didn’t really want, but dishes you can’t really go wrong with, butter chicken and mixed grill. Oh how we were wrong! They gave us what tasted like an overly sweet korma with stale tasting chicken, didn’t even bother with the mixed grill after tasting a bite of the “tandoori” chicken as it was just a red coloured chicken marinated in water perhaps? The naan we ordered was too doughy, not cooked long enough and the bottom of it looked like someone stepped all over them with their ashy boots. All in all, we felt sick and had to fill up on the poppadoms they had on the table when we arrived, later to find out they weren’t complimentary and they even charge for the sauces! On top of all of the above, starters took 1 hour and mains an extra hour, with us being the ONLY customers in there for 2 hours! They didn’t have takeaways / deliveries either during that time, AVOID...
Read moreMy on/off love affair with the POB has finally ended, which is a shame as it is my local. The good stuff: their food is fresh and not greasy which is why they have their 2 stars. Their tandoori has never been the best, but I am a lover of dhansaks. They used to make the best dhansak around (in my opinion) but every now and again, you would notice when a different chef was used, so I would try other locals but always ended up back at POB. Recently their dhansak had gone off point again, so I switched to Mint, and was quite happy (although their delivery times were variable). This week we had friends coming round so placed a larger order. Very disappointed. The vegetable dishes had changed from previously and were not particularly tasty, but my biggest concern (they are not cheap anyway) is that all the take away container sizes had been halved and so portions were much smaller (see attached picture comparing the size a few weeks ago to current) which left us all quite hungry. No price adjustment or warning. Sorry guys, but with the cooking changing and much smaller portions, I was very disappointed and so will take...
