We were utterly dismayed by our dining experience this morning at the Rhubarb Cafe. My husband and I visited the cafe, and I ordered a vegetarian breakfast. A friend joined us later and placed a separate order for a Cumberland sausage. Soon, my meal arrived, and I proceeded to eat it, assuming it was vegetarian. My friend's sausage was significantly delayed, prompting us to inquire about its whereabouts. Eventually, a single sausage was served to my friend. Upon finishing our meals, we were charged for two sausages, despite my friend only ordering one. When we questioned this, the lady at the till stated that the extra sausage had been served on my plate. This revelation was deeply distressing. I’m a devout Hindu and have never consumed pork or beef in my life. The lady at the till displayed a complete lack of understanding or empathy for my religious beliefs and the profound impact this incident had on me. Instead of offering a sincere apology, she seemed to perceive our concerns as a mere attempt to avoid paying. The young man who took our order demonstrated a similar lack of concern, failing to even acknowledge the situation unfolding. The entire staff appeared woefully unprepared to handle such a sensitive matter, with no consideration for religious dietary requirements. This incident raises serious concerns about the kitchen's hygiene and the potential for other diners to have unknowingly consumed dishes contrary to their wishes. This experience was deeply upsetting and left us feeling completely disregarded and disrespected. We urge Rhubarb Cafe to prioritise staff training on cultural sensitivity, religious dietary needs, and appropriate customer service. I understand that this may be difficult for non-vegetarians to fully comprehend, but I hope they can appreciate that consuming meat from animals that they don’t generally consume would be deeply unsettling, just as consuming pork was for me as a...
Read moreWent to this place three or four times, so you might be surprised by my rating. I kept going back because the place has great potential. Nice ideas about organic food and their sausages for the full English breakfast are locally sourced and very good quality compared to your average full English. The reason for my rating is that everything is pretty disorganised. When we went the second time my partner was basically served raw eggs though they were supposed to be boiled. The egg white was still transparant and he couldn't eat it. Food took ages, also ordered a smoothie which took ages and they went to buy the fruit for it and then someone finally came back with the fruit. Another time the machine was out of order. The last time we were there we waited, and waited, we weren't even acknowledged as guests, no eye contact. I went to the bar to ask to order and she said she'd be with is in a bit. Other customers looked agitated as they were waiting ages for their coffee. We sat and waited, coffee guy was served and then she walked over to us, did not make eye contact and started clearing the plates next to our table. We'd been waiting to order for maybe 30 or 35min and it's a very tiny cafe. We then got up and left, because my nice breakfast idea was ruined, the lady ran out after is and just said "Hello? Hello?" seeming confused we left. People who came in shortly after us saw us leave and looked worried, they probably realised they'd also likely not get served anytime soon. I hope this place has improved since, it looks nice, they've got a nice concept and good ingredients but they need to learn a thing or two. I gave it...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this hidden little cafe in the heart of Cassiobury one Sunday afternoon. It has a cosy, relaxed atmosphere that makes it perfect for unwinding with a good book, afternoon brunch or catching up with friends. As you walk in, it delivers a warm, laid-back vibe, full of antiques, trinkets and plants. It instantly feels you are in someone's home about to have a homemade meal. There is a selection of hot drinks, smoothies, fresh juices and teas. I had tried their Chai Latte which was crafted with care and just had the right blend of spice and sweetness. They also offer a small selection of pastries and snacks, all of which was fresh and homemade.
Staff was welcoming and approachable and kindly accommodating to any adjustments on the menu. The food arrived at a decent pace, which was expected from a leisurely, relaxed place like this plus everything was cooked fresh from the kitchen. I would say my only thing is that the food portions were slighter on the smaller side and therefore a bit pricey for the portions you get, however you are getting tasty, homemade cooked food that feels fresh.
Overall, this cafe is a wonderful spot for anyone looking for something a little different from the big coffee chains. It’s a cosy, warm, and inviting space that’s definitely worth a visit if you are ever...
