Review: Borough Beer House, The Borough, Farnham By one who drinks deep and dreams deeper still
Hark, good pilgrim of pint and spirit! If thy soul be weary of the watery swill dispensed by thine corporate taverns ā where Carling doth flow like tears from a bored accountant's eye, and Morettiās fizz doth froth bland as courtly gossip ā then gird thy loins, for there is refuge yet.
In the shadowed heart of Farnham's Borough, down cobbled path and beneath signage humble, stands a sanctuary for the rebel drinker: Borough Beer House, that sacred shrine of suds where no kingās brew may pass and no lager-lordās seal dare linger.
Here, the ales are unshackled. Here, the lagers are anarchists. Here, the beer is independent ā with a capital I, scribbled in angry ink by a monk excommunicated for loving too many hops.
They pour not the blood of giants, but the nectar of outlaws.
In place of the false idols ā your Stella, your Fosterās, that wretched draught of sameness ā you shall find alchemical elixirs of rare and wondrous power. I speak not in jest.
ā A chocolate stout, blacker than a bailiffās soul, rich as the coffers of a crooked bishop. It drinks like velvet dipped in memory, like midnight whispered through burnt oak.
ā A West Coast IPA, crystalline as a prophecy, bitter as exile. It cuts through the tongue like a sword through serfdom, leaving citrus, pine, and rebellion in its wake.
ā A German wheat pilsner, noble and unclouded, yet unbending in its clarity. It sings the purity laws like hymns of defiance. Drink and dream of Würzburg summers and barmaid revolts.
Here, the staff know their brews as scribes know their scrolls ā each keg a scripture, each pour a sermon. Speak not of ājust lagerā, lest you be smitten with a raised eyebrow and an offer of something better, something true.
The dƩcor? Think rustic prophecy: wood and warmth and an air of noble dissent. The lighting? Soft enough to confess your sins beneath, bold enough to toast the future.
Borough Beer House is not for the faint-livered. It is for the curious, the converted, the cast out. It is for those who believe that a pint should mean something.
Come. Lay down your macrobrew burdens. Sip the subversive. And may your tongue never thirst for Carling again.
Foods! Lo! What sorcery from yon infernal oven breaks? A pizza, hand-thrown ā not by machine nor miser, But by flour-dusted artisans whose hands know hunger, Whose hearts beat to the rhythm of crust and crave.
The base: thin as a pauperās hope, yet stout as oaken shield, Kissed by flame till its edges char just so ā Toasty, golden, slightly blistered, like a saintās last wish.
Upon this humble altar of grain and fire, They scatter treasures that would make a duke weep: Eclectic charcuterie, meats cured with the lust of old gods, Spiced and sliced like forbidden love letters. And cheeses ā cheeses! ā smoky as a hereticās last breath, But piquant, sharp, defiant, awakening the tongue Like a whispered scandal in a silent cloister.
One bite and thou art undone. Two, and thou art reborn. Three, and ye start checking the calendarā¦
ā¦for lo! On Sundays and Mondays, These holy wheels of indulgence are granted at half price. Half the coin for twice the joy ā a bargain fit for knaves and nobles alike.
So gorge, good pilgrim. Gorge and praise. For at Borough Beer House, even the pizza Wears the crown of independence And tastes like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you like Craft Beer and live anywhere near Farnham then the Borough Beer House is the place to go. Having moved from the east side of London to Farnham I previously had lots of choice of craft beer pubs or taprooms all with a great range and the Borough Beer House does a fine job of offering the same range of choice of beers (more actually if you like cider), atmosphere and food. Also, make sure when you look through the door that you don't think all the seating is on the ground floor as there is a large first floor with plenty of seating. Only thing to note is that children under 8 years old are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFantastic, independent craft bar situated in Farnham town centre. This is out third visit and done over a mixture of different days.
Weeknights are quiet and slow but this is when they have the quiz and open mic nights.
These are Fantastic additions to such a quaint place. Weekends are different and don't seem yo have much direction or atmosphere. We felt pushed out by some rude regulars whom stand at the bar in their shorts with DMs. The pizza offered are tasty and well priced for a snack needed. The ale and other drinks selection can't be matched.
A great place in the week not so much at...
