I went in for the 4th time in 7 months and 4 times very bad service. I'm sorry and I am sure you do not want to hear this but seriously, each time has been .......not great. I have taken 4 different friends there. First time was in the summer and we sat outside with my smoker friend. Asked for an ashtray - never came. Coffee brought eventually (they were busy, so that's fine I guess) - We then had to ask for sugar. Eventually that came (but coffee then got cold) - however we both looked at her and said..........any chance of a spoon? It never came so my eyebrow pencil had to do.

Well I wanted to add another explanation but it requires me to continue on here. The 2nd time I went in with friend (crowded - fine) Ordered coffee and sandwich with a friend. We got the wrong sandwiches and waited and waited but gave up. My veg friend split half of a tuna - we paid for the lot but never got the correct order. Then a month ago I came in with a visiting friend and staff were resting and eating - which is ABSOLUTELY fine during a lull. We scratched heads and said, guess we sit where we want.......waited waited and a waitress was finishing with a family of four taking their cakes to them - walking right past us twice with no word, no smile, no acknowledgement whatsoever. I Then started to get up and find some menu's - and quickly the seated staff said hello and they explained they were having a lull and just sat to grab a bite. Surely we understood that but not even a 'hello', we'll be right with you, or hi, we'll bring menus...........nothing - Eventually the tall blonde came to our table and took our orders - still no smiles, no hiya, no welcomes.......just total silence. I've given Natters 4 chances now and my friends are NOT the first to say the service is appalling. We have now tried the other two cafes and most pleased with both. Sorry Natters........I'm sure you'll stay...

Natter cafe have become too popular for their own good.

Ring to order a lunch, or book a table and there is no phone queueing system. Instead, you are greeted with a recorded message telling you to ring back, presumably because the line is engaged. I’d rather be greeted with an engaged single than a voicemail - which means you are charged each time you ring to get through!

On finally getting to order, I clearly asked the woman who took my order (Ruby) to confirm the sandwich came with the salad, crisps and coleslaw garnish. She said yes. When my husband went to collect and asked the same question, she flatly denied it, embarrassing him in front of a queue of customers.I phoned myself later to fin out what had happened and again she was belligerent and denied telling me something different on my earlier call. However, she also missed another item off the order - which she grudgingly confirmed she’d forgotten (clearly didn’t remember the full conversation as well as she thought then).

But It was her attitude which rankled the most. “So, what do you want me to do about it, then?”Was her response. Perhaps an acknowledgment that she’d made a mistake and an apology would have been nice.

Sadly, its not the first time that Natters has screwed up an order, with other items being missed off when you come to collect. The service is also very slow when you go in.

A victim of their own popularity because they are currently the only breakfast and lunch style cafe in the village, means they can take advantage and treat customers with disdain. At the elevated prices coupled with shoddy service, I’d rather use deliveroo to pick up a more affordable lunch elsewhere without...

Sadly yet another example of letting standards slip. I have had many lovely meals and take aways from here in the past. I admit it’s been more than a year since my last visit. My wife and I popped in for a late breakfast and were sadly disappointed, It was busy which is usual and the awkwardness lingering at the door to be seated was as un comfortable as usual too, But that’s not my gripe.. My flat white was cold and arrived in a Cortado sized ceramic shot pot, Not great! Breakfast was also not great.. the eggs especially bad. One egg was very burnt underneath and around the edges and the yolk was hard (it seemed to have been cooked for a while) the other egg was freshly cooked but sadly undercooked both white and yolk covered in a layer of wet watery uncooked slimy skin! Not nice! I raised the issue with our server and after some confusion,( I think a language barrier), I had to put my fingers in the egg to demonstrate how uncooked it indeed was, to which she realized what I was trying to say and suggested she gets new eggs! Ok I said, but they took quite a while to arrive and by then the rest of the breakfast was cold! Nightmare!! The rest of the breakfast was average at best. The place feels tired , especially in the backyard where we were, the staff seemed flustered and/or uninterested. My wife chose scrabbled eggs which were ok but her meal was spoiled as we couldn’t eat together! I’m so disappointed with my meal, I will not be returning. Unless I hear improvement...

I read in earlier reviews that this place could be a gem, so l thought that I had better try it out. I concur! A lot of people will know the Natter kiosk at the station, but the café in St John's Street is far more of an experience. I ordered just a cup of filter coffee and was delighted with the method whereby the waitress poured hot water into a coffee filled filter - you can't get fresher than that. The coffee was from Rwanda, with the details (and that of their decaffeinated version) on their blackboard. I had something to eat and was served quickly and with generous portions. I was looked after by their waitress Chloe who was fantastically friendly yet efficient, but especially noted that all the staff were aiming to please the customers - no one was kept guessing or waiting. Spotlessly clean loos with proper paper towels. No car park, but various 1 hour parking bays dotted around the adjacent streets. Normal price value for a café - excellent value when you consider the service.

Good breakfast in a lovely setting. Special attention paid to coffee and the teas are served in cute teapots and cups. The servers were initially very friendly but then ignored us once our food had arrived (I would have liked more water. I had to flag down down a server for pepper) At one point a server even walked by and collected empty plates from a table beside us that had come later, ignoring our own. I had to wave down someone to pay, and we left with dirty plates still on the table. A cute setup, and tasty food, but would benefit from a bit more attention to detail from wait staff.

BOOK A TABLE at the weekend!! We arrived at 09:30 expecting to walk in to have a breakfast but the place was full and we were squeezed in between bookings. The place is regularly full on weekends from breakfast through to late afternoon teas. We had a coffee pot of tea, half English Breakfast and a sourdough toast with avo-feta mix with poached egg….fabulous food and lovely service……lovely to go somewhere with such a happy, buzzy vibe! We would love to go back to taste their scones in the afternoon!! A lovely touch is that they also put (lovely!) local art on the walls
