My family and I visited The Mill yesterday and found it to really delightful. The staff were attentive, the food was lovely and the surroundings were perfect EXCEPT....I wouldn't recommend anyone go to this pub if they are a wheelchair user!! Although there is adequate Blue Badge holder parking bays these are situated directly next too a cobbled footpath into the pub. I had to pull my partner in his wheelchair backwards across the cobblestones to oder to reach the tarmac area to the pub doors. Once we got inside there was nothing but steps and more steps. All of the steps are very deep which my daughter had to drag my partner to reach our table in the middle of the pub. Then, when it came to using the toilet things only got worse. There wasn't any disabled toilets so I had to take my partner into the very small gentlemans loo's. Once inside there was another step into the cubiles. Once I had managed to lift my partner along with his wheelchair up the step I had to climb over the wheelchair to I could lift my partnwr onto the toilet. Once he'd finished we had to go through the process in reverse. Likely there was a man in the loo and he very kindly assisted me in getting the wheelchair down the step out into the corridor where my daughter was waiting in oder to pull her father up another step to our table. Once again, another customer came and assisted her pull the wheelchair up this huge step. When we finished our enjoyable meal we went around part of the pub hoping this would be a better exit only to be confronted with another 2 steps. We eventually got to the doors in the porch area of the pub, where there were no tables/chairs as this is an entry exit area, and we saw a disabled persons toilet!! If a wheelchair user were going to use this pub but intending to sit in the entrance area with no table or chair to have a meal or just a drknkthen this would be fine. It was such a shame we all had to struggle so much just to have a meal and drink with my family . My partner is terminally ill and doesn't often have the opportunity to go out and I believe his day was ruined by the...
Read moreOutstanding venue, beautiful grounds. Stopped by for an unplanned dinner and plenty of table on a friday evening. Service was not great. Waitering staff did not give condiments or show us where to find them - we found them ourselves. No cutlery or napkins brought to table. We had to keep going back and forth to the bar to find request napkins, cutlery etc. Starters came in good time and kids burgers. Bruchetta not crispy in middle, soggy with the avocado on top. But otherwise ok. The mains took a very long time. This made it harder to keep kids entertained as they had finished their food and sat with nothing to keep them entertained. A colouring pack or something would be good in this circumstance.
Kids food was nice. Tasty grilled burger.
Once the mains arrived the seabass was raw! Crab burger not properly cooked through either. Reported to restaurant and sea bass sent back to kitchen as waitress agreed.
They offered pudding and drinks complimentary, but service took so long and it was late with young kids we didnt take it. Refund on sea bass meal given without fuss.
It spoilt the evening, especially as i have a crohns colitis, food poisoning would sent me to hospital and i am just getting over a massive flare. So i felt very stressed and nauseous all evening.
The waiter who served us needs training. ( Not the one who dealt with the complaint- she was good, but the male one). He didnt ask basic questions like is there anything else as we had no chance to ask for cutlery or napkins. They need to tell us where to find condiments.
The chef needs to cook the food.I think the food needs something more to match the standard of the venue.
The manager handle the situation very well and I got the feeling is wanting to improve on the food standard side of things.
I understand things being slow when understaffed, I would give 4 stars, but not being able to get napkins and cutlery or having raw food.
Toilets very clean .
I would only go back if chef...
Read moreJust had a trip to the mill for a Sunday roast. Never do these reviews but the trip warrants one. We booked as they have the kids table and we thought our son would like it. Ridiculously, it is up a steep flight of stairs away from all the main tables. We have a younger child in a buggy and there is no lift so this obviously hasn’t been thought through at all. The girls working on the table were great.
We were put in a very dark corner initially and I asked to be moved. This seemed to take 3 people sort out.
We ordered our food and drinks. Lemonade turned up as soda so needed to be changed.
Our food then turned up and it was cold - my husband ate his as he was really hungry (he should have sent his back as well!) but I couldn’t. All the sides we ordered were stone cold as well - including cauliflower cheese!
I told the waiter and said it was cold. It then arrived back and had literally been put under the grill - but obviously hadn’t heated anything up significantly at all. I’m not sure that is food standards safe!!
I told the waiter again and he said ‘that’s how we sort it here, and there isn’t anything else we can do!’ Absolutely appalling service! I asked to speak to the manager who said she would get me a new meal as she didn’t want me going hungry! It came within 5 minutes- the meat was hot and every thing else was luke warm at best. And half the chicken (as pictured) was the literal carcass!
At this point I was worried I might get food poisoning! There was no apology and when my husband paid she said ‘sorry you didn’t enjoy your food’ I didn’t get a chance to eat the food as it was cold! She took my meal off the bill - but no offer of a free drink etc. we were made to feel like we were making a fuss and should just eat it and be quiet!
There was obviously some kind of issue with The kitchen but the front of house staff were so lack lustre and completely incompetent we obviously won’t be returning.
I would avoid at all costs...
