A true gem and perfectly preserved example of a truly traditional British pub. Regulars can be found playing dominoes or darts at the front, with the lovingly cared for leatherette saloon available at the back. The cosy, compact and quiet beer garden / courtyard is great too.
The Greene King beers served here are the very best examples you'll find (the brewery is a few footsteps away!) and the rare Mild is legendary and always available, with many (including myself) traveling for miles just to sample it.
The Landlord and Landlady are shining examples of the traditional hospitable and friendly hosts so rarely found these days - with plenty of biting wit and banter, should you wish to have a good chat!

I was just looking for a gentle nightcap after a delightful dinner and walked in to this incredibly friendly and welcoming group of people eager to talk to anyone who came through the door. The pub was warm, inviting, and full of banter -- I would have stayed all night if I could!
