We visited Turkoman Bar and Grill in Newmarket as a large group of eleven and were immediately impressed by how well the staff handled our booking and service. Despite the restaurant being busy, the atmosphere never felt cramped, and the team remained attentive, professional, and understanding throughout the evening. Their forward-thinking approach to serving a larger party was clear — nothing felt rushed or overlooked.
We began with a generous spread of hot and cold mezzes, which set the tone for the evening. Each dish was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing. The freshly baked bread was served warm and lightly seasoned, pairing wonderfully with the in-house garlic and chilli sauces. Both dips were clearly homemade, offering a depth of flavour that elevated the starters.
For the mains, we opted for the Chef’s Special and the Turkoman Special, both of which were outstanding. The platters showcased a wide variety of meats — from tender chicken to rich lamb and perfectly seasoned beef — all grilled over an open barbecue. This gave the dishes that authentic smoky flavour which really stood out. The meats were accompanied by fragrant rice and hearty bulgar wheat, balancing the meal and ensuring everyone left satisfied.
What made the experience particularly enjoyable was the way the staff anticipated our needs without being intrusive. Drinks were refilled promptly, and any requests were handled with ease and a smile. For a busy Saturday night, the service felt smooth and well-coordinated, which speaks volumes about their training and dedication.
Overall, Turkoman Bar and Grill offers a fantastic dining experience for both small and large groups. The food is full of flavour, the portions are generous, and the service is second to none. It’s a place where you feel welcomed, looked after, and certain to leave with a full stomach and a smile. We’ll definitely be returning and recommending...
Read moreFirst impressions, very nice, well laid out, not very busy (only 1 other table being used). Popped in Fri lunchtime and was aware that there's a lunchtime 2 course menu, just the job. After a while of sitting there we intercepted the waiter to ask for the lunchtime menu as there was the full evening menus given to us, duly supplied. Bearing in mind this is a very warm 🥵 day. We also intercepted the waiter to ask "could you please take our drinks order"? Suitable initial 1 each drinks ordered, orange lemonade (large, pint one please) coke etc. and jug of water; no jug water, small glass of orange lemonade and the remaining drinks. Throughout the stay we were not asked again for drinks, we wanted water and probably a glass (bottle between us 4) of wine. Bread and dips, then starters, then main course, getting thirstier.....food ok, my moussaka was luke warm only, waiter had a method of delivering and dashing off not to be seen again.....we would have ordered desserts but eventually when plates were collected we asked for one tea, and 3 coffees and one piece of cheesecake (the rest of us had gone off the idea of dessert; one tea arrived with the cheesecake portion but no coffees (waiter went outside the front for a break) eventually a kitchen member arrived to clear the cup and plate, we asked about where the other 3 coffees were and had a blank face response and then the kitchen chap said it is not on the order .....why would you deliver one tea and not ask the other 3 customers about drinks....we thought they would return immediately with the coffees after dropping the tea and cheesecake off. Was warned that the service was hit and miss, guessing we got the miss day? Strange as on a Fri lunchtime only 2 tables, the other table left before us so hopefully they do better in the evenings otherwise they'll be out of business soon, unless there's a plan...
Read moreA group of 10 of us went here Saturday night for dinner for what was meant to be a really special birthday. I recommended Turkoman as we are local and go there a lot, in the past they've been great. I was so embarrassed to have suggested this, it was the worst dining experience we've ever had. The staff really couldn't have cared less, we had to chase every single drink order with multiple staff, we sat there for over an hour without drinks and an uncleared table while new people came in and were served straight away. The guy who's birthday it was his dinner came without the sides, we flagged down two staff who said they'd get it, it never came so he only had half a meal. I brought a cake in to bring out at the end but after an hour when no one had cleared the table or come over in the end we gave up and I just asked for the cake back and took it home in a bag. Then, when we paid we were told the money was wrong so I had to go up and count it out in front of the staff to prove it was right (which it was). We came out with a colossal bill and really, really disappointed. I was shocked how bad the staff were, they just wanted to get the next table filled and were completely ignoring the ones...
