As a regular visitor to The White Hart for the past 7 years, I am grateful and very impressed for the level of professionalism that the staff dedicate to their line of work. Everyone at the establishment manages to invest a great deal of self-commitment and resourcefulness to their individual job roles. Especially Neve!
As one of the rare places in Newmarket where I manage to get along with everyone, Neve makes for a complimentary addition to an all-round exceptional team of people. They all work very hard to keep the spirit of the friendly atmosphere alive; the food is always lovely and refreshing, which is a perfect treat for a Sunday roast dinner (my compliments to the chef). And best of all, they have consistently shown great understanding in how positive social interactions are the key ingredient for good and effective customer service.
I may not be an active participant in the horse racing at the July Racecourses, or an avid follower of the football games. Or even, a recurring gambler. But a cold drink and a rest after a stressful day at work, or just taking the weight off my feet after one of my various outings, is always welcome. And I’m really glad the White Hart is here to accommodate those needs.
While not everyone in Newmarket was ready for, or willing to accept a distinctively, nonconforming, larger than life character like myself, with an independent outlook on life and her own wacky sense of style, the team have done a sensational job of ensuring that everybody feels comfortably accepted.
Thank you, everyone! And let it continue for...
Read morePleasant weekend stay here with B&B. Booked a 'Family Room' which having glanced into a couple of others in passing was a good decision since the extra space it afforded was welcome. The en-suite bathroom was more than adequate with a decent enough shower above the bath and large fluffy towels provided. A hair dryer was eventually located in one of the bedside cabinets. Easy check-in with very friendly helpful staff who warned me my room was above the bar and function area where on the Saturday night a disco would play until 1am. Yes it was clearly audible but not as bothersome as the sounds from the High Street outside where revellers could be heard well into the early hours. Lovely views out of the front windows of the Jockey Club HQ on the opposite side of the street. Tattersalls saleroom is located just down the road from the hotel in the direction of the railway station. The hotel itself is about a 10 minutes walk from the railway station so really no need for a taxi unless it's raining! Breakfast is served in the bar and I pre-paid £8:25 for the full English which includes Juice, Croissants, Cereal, a large 'fry-up' as well as Coffee, etc., this I considered offered good value. The bar itself is quite busy during the evenings and offers a good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices with a 20% discount on food if you show your room key. In summary? A very pleasant weekend stay in a lovely part of England with many interesting things to see and do all in relatively...
Read moreI had such high hopes for dinner here. The atmosphere and decor are great. ||But that is just about the best of it. ||We ordered 3 courses, and they got all 3 of mine wrong in some way. I ordered the mini camembert starter, and they brought out a massive sharer, they did just reduce the price of it and left it with us, but it ended up being such a waste of food. My mains... I ordered rump steak, medium rare, what I got was a fatty lump of steak, cooked medium - well, really chewy, so mu just so, it hurt my teeth for a couple hours after. I had to request a steak knife, and apparently the waiter "always forgets those". Wonderful. Then desert...simple enough, sticky toffee pudding and custard, brings out sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. I wouldn't mind a mistake with my order, but 3 for 3 is a bit much. My husbands food all came out correctly but all of it was distinctly average.||The place was all but empty, 3 tables including ours (one was a large table of 11, but they were already eating their mains when we arrived), and the team still seemed so pressured. They weren't taking walk ins...the sign on the door was turning people away due to lack of staff (despite there being 2 of them waiting with one behind the bar). There were a couple of people millions around in the bar area, but honestly never seen somewhere so poorly organised.||I think I'll stop using Greene King pubs, the last couple have been...
