I really hate to write bad reviews, but we have been let down each time we've been to Unico. It's such a shame as it really is a beautiful restaurant and amazing food, but we have been put off going again. I planned a birthday surprise for a friend, I booked a week in advance for 13 people. They asked if two separate tables would be okay, I said absolutely not, we all want to be together. They said that's absolutely fine. The day of, I went at lunch time to check the table, drop off balloons, etc. I was happy with the table. However, when we arrived we were put on separate booths. So not even were we not sitting together, we couldn't even see eachother. Not even on the table they showed me a few hours before. They moved us to another table, but it only seated 11 people, not 13 like I asked for. So only 11 people stayed to eat.
Say night, we had our starters which were delicious! Then when our mains arrived, an extra dish was bought out and we looked confused as no one had ordered this dish. The waitress said well you have to pay for it. So we did and asked for it to be put in a doggy bag. We done this to save the embarrassment as it was very awkward. The birthday girl who the surprise was for also asked for a chicken and mushroom pasta dish, which turned out to be a fish dish, but again to save hassle and embarrassment, she ate it. The mains were amazing though, as always.
Me and my partner ordered a sharing board (minimum 2 people) which was around £11. When we were billed, they charged us £22. We thought we had read it wrong, but when I look at the menu again, we must have been charged wrong.
The food is amazing, but I've never had waitress say to me you are paying for th extra meal. Surely they would see it is wrong if they've taken down 12 meals for 11 people? Read moreSeen the wonderful reviews and decided to book a table for 6 for my daughter's 18th birthday. Had a lovely table and things started well with a pleasant young waitress. Drinks were ordered and that's when things started going downhill. I don't know where the issue is with the teenage boy with braces who had been charged with serving our drinks but he just dumped them on the table with no attempt to identify who's drink was who's.
Then a party of about 12 very drunk, very loud and very unpleasant racegoers turned up and it turned vile. They were disgusting and changed the whole feeling in the restaurant. We received our main courses, ate and then I went to find the waitress to ask for the bill. I advised her that we were leaving and would have stayed longer and ordered more food and drinks but the table of drunks had made staying there impossible.
She didn't really understand my concerns and so I pointed out that it is illegal to serve alcohol to customers that you know to be drunk. Again, she didn't seem to either understand or care.
