Josie's — Restaurant in Winchester

Had lunch at Josies today (2 Aug 2025). Firstly, we ordered 3 drinks but they all came out separately about 3 minutes apart, as if they were separate orders. They were obviously being made, taken to table, being made, taken to table etc. Not sure why they couldn't make 3 and take all 3 to the table at the same time. Secondly, whilst we waited 40 minutes (yes 40 minutes!) for our lunch, I was able to observe the completely chaotic way the waitresses were working. None of them prioritised collecting hot food from the counter to take to tables, instead prioritising clearing the odd cup from empty tables, despite there being clean available tables for customers to sit at, and despite hot food at the counter getting cold. When I eventually lost the will to live, having waited 40 mins for a toasted sandwich, I spoke to the cafe manager who said she would follow up on my order. Her and a colleague were chatting at the counter while our food was on it, for 2-3 minutes before she brought them over. This meant our meals were Luke warm, but by then, I was past caring. She took the drinks off our final bill, but in all honesty, she shouldn't have charged us for anything. She needs to get her staff organised so they know what tables they're responsible for and what they need to prioritise. Will not...

I met a couple of friends in Josie’s this morning. What a disappointment! My friends (who had come from Southampton) arrived first. They ordered coffee but were told the machine was broken so had to have tea. I arrived only 5 minutes later and ordered coffee (machine had been fixed). Why didn’t the waitress say the machine is being fixed so they would have had the chance to wait? I then waited at least 15 minutes for my coffee and had to remind the waitress before it arrived. . The waitress did not apologise and when we asked her (very politely) if she would mind clearing the table as we ordered more drinks, she said nothing and gave us a filthy look! To be fair, when I went to pay, I asked for the teas to be deducted and there was no argument. Our main issue was with the terrible service. I think staff training is needed. I was embarrassed having suggested we try Josies for coffee to my friends. I will not be going back unless I hear that something is being done about the...

Chanced on this place with a recommendation from my wife... ended up taking the whole family here. The wait for a table was resolved with a quick convo and I provided my number and name. Wait time was 20 minutes, we got a table in 10 - awesome.

1st sign of a great place is it is always full to the brim with people.

The 2nd was the portion and presentation of the food.... fantastic as is the taste. See attached pictures.

The 3rd was the customer service. The staff while incredibly busy always have a friendly demeanor. We did have a late ham and cheese toastie, we did not notch up a fuss or ask for it but we just queried where it was. The staff apologised and took it off the bill and even provided complimentary fries.

Yes, even something as humble as the fried chip here is amazing and wholesome.
