Just been to the Bell Inn for dinner, been a couple of times before but this time was just awful, we got seated in the restaurant, family of 3 came in after and it was like we didn’t exist, their order was taken first while we just waited, eventually the woman working the bar came down to take our order as the woman looking after the restaurant area just kept disappearing.
Starters were ok except that every one of the prawns in the half pint of prawns was full of eggs. We then sat with dirty plates in front of us for 10 mins before the woman working the bar once again came down to clear an empty table before clearing ours.
Our mains then arrived but my partners main of fillet steak which he ordered rare, arrived medium rare, duly sent it back to the kitchen to then be told it would be a 15 minute wait to cook another small piece of fillet rare by which time I would have finished my main so we cancelled the fillet.
No idea what The Bell are thinking of having only 2 staff to manage the bar, restaurant and outside area on a Saturday night but need a serious rethink as they were just seating more and more people in larger groups when they couldn’t even get looking after the 2...
Read moreOk experience but wouldn't rush back. Came here for a Valentine's Day lunch with my parents and while the food was good, the service was abysmal. There was only one person working the dining room on a busy afternoon and when we sat down, we were not greeted or acknowledged for over 15 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes and trying to get the servers attention for some menus we attempted to order at the bar only to be told we had to order at our table. We didn't wait long for the food and it was delicious but we struggled to get a pitcher of water for our table and when we asked for more french bread for the baked camembert, we were given sliced sandwich bread. We couldn't reach the server to order dessert so we went up to the bar to pay our bill and went across the street to the patisserie for dessert. Overall it was ok but when you are paying £15 for a main course, there are other places in Alresford with...
Read moreJust visiting the town for the day. We had the set menu and sat outside as it was a warm day. Group of 4. Two of our party had the sea bass which was excellent. Two of our party had the cold beef salad served with chips. The cold beef was served with some green salad which I think was a small portion of rocket, which was more decorative than filling. When the menu says salad we expected perhaps some other things such as tomatoes, cucumer etc. It was not substantial. I know it was a set meal at a good price. Seem to think it was around £13 for two courses, but we were disappointed with that particular choice. Having said the puddings were excellent which made up for it. Perhaps the pub will see this and add...
