Been meaning to come for a while and finally glad we did. We chose the Porterhouse Steakhouse as my wife and I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary somewhere we hadn't previously been. We chose a steakhouse as it was more a less local to us and seemed to have good reviews. The staff and the interior were fantastic along with the drinks menu. My issues were primarily with the cost of the meal. I don't mind paying high prices for a top quality meal but if I'm being honest it didn't have that polish, feel or finesse to it to justify its cost. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but not great and certainly not worthy of what we paid. I had the Porterhouse steak whilst my wife had the T-Bone. I know Porterhouse's and T-Bone's can be tricky to cook for the average Jo chef, but at a steakhouse I didn't expect this to be a problem. I asked for my steak to be cooked rare and at best was medium, not too much of a problem. The quality of the Porterhouse was certainly not up to the pricing as there were large sections that were simply inedible and next to no seasoning, maybe even no seasoning at all. My wife's steak was cooked perfectly and really made her meal. I think I would go back but certainly wouldn't have the Porterhouse again, perhaps something else from their great looking menu.

On walking in the decor is a little dated and bland but this is the only negative we could find, great service from walking in the door, a warm welcome and polite manner always starts well. Taken to our seat, we were advised of the menus and drinks list available. Offered to take our jackets and provision of water as we sat down Advised of the GLUTEN FREE/COELIAC AVAILABILITY, plenty of choices and chef was happy to adapt to suit. The service was just as you'd want not too much but just enough to go that extra mile!! Food ordered and kept informed of any gluten potential risks. With a few adaptations, we sat and awaited our meal. Starters and mains with a bottle of wine to share. Food was incredible, cooked well as requested..

We visited the Porterhouse for our mother's 80th birthday and had a brilliant meal. The staff and management couldn't have been more helpful and attentive, including setting up balloons and organising the birthday cake (which we were permitted to provide ourselves with no issue that it would mean no dessert orders!). The steaks were perfectly cooked, starters and sides all great (probably the best Steak Tartare I've ever had) and the chips were insanely crispy! Easily the best place to eat Steak in Winchester.

We visited for my birthday and though it was raining outside, the atmosphere was warm. As a group of 6 we enjoyed a three course meal and left with full belly’s and lighter wallets.

Do not expect to walk in and spend time browsing a extensive menu, they have several different steak cuts a vegetable option, pork, lamb and a mini mixed grill. Expect to spend up to £30 for a steak with the porterhouse (for two) coming in at around. £50. The meat was cooked beautifully and the fillet is a generous size.

The only downsides I experienced were minor things, firstly the chips were served in the middle of the table in a communal bowl, I didn’t expect to have to dish up my own meal.

Secondly our waiter would pass us the plates over the table, again a minor thing however not the level of service you would expect from a pricier place.

All In I was happy with the meal and would...

Quite appalling and the atmosphere was lonely and empty. The food was bland and overcooked and the display was shocking. The service was basic and there was no emotion to it. The interior of the restaurant was old and had this sulfur yellow colour to its walls. The chairs and tables were all old and plain and it was not a pleasant experience. The red wine sauce that I had was thick and watery, almost like a red bean paste. The steak was over and undercooked in different places and tasted like cardboard, the garnishes were boring and the plates were too big. We had two massive plates that covered the whole table for just the starters, which were prawns and calamari that were over cooked with mal prepared sauce. The steaks and starters were all overpriced for small portions for the starters.

It was just...
