  • UPDATE * 16/24 Been banging on to the kids how great the fries are so popped in at the end of half term to prove it 😁 The portion size has reduced quite a bit but both the plain fries and truffle parmesan were still superb and I still think reasonable value for money. We also added delicious crispy beer battered onion rings and spicy buttermilk chicken. I was really pleased with the chicken in particular as there was plenty to share between four of us for under £8. With drinks our bill was under £40 and service was friendly and prompt as always. When train service is resumed, we're definitely going to try here for a Sunday roast.

Previous review below..... BEST CHIPS EVER. A great location. 10 seconds from Botley station. Lovely big outdoor seating area and inside is a proper English pub with a log burner in action on cold days. Came here for a lunch with my wife. We both had the club sandwich which was delicious but despite starving myself, I failed in my quest to take it down. I'm ashamed. This was in part due to the awesomeness of the accompanying fries. Wife opted for skin on fries which were 10/10 however, we also ordered the parmesan truffle fries. My god. At £4.50 I was expecting quality but we also got quantity. A huge portion and they were absolutely to die for. Hands down the best chips I've ever had, beating the previous best of triple cooked duck fat chips at a Tanners brothers restaurant. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good range of drinks. We'll be returning to work through the rest of the menu...... with a...

After looking at many options for my Fathers wake I stumbled upon this little gem, from the moment I met with Rob and we were interrupting by a call saying my mother had a fall and while organising someone to to and tend to her Rob had slipped away to make me a coffee and sat me down as I was upset and worried and asked if there was anything he could do to help and at that point I knew I knew this was the place to celebrate my Dad’s life. Rob was so kind, welcoming and helpful and even gave me his phone number so I could message him with any questions I had going forward and even met me at the venue on his day off. On the day I knew I would have no worries and the large conservatory area we were in was beautifully set up with lit candles which made it feel so cosy and calming. The food was amazing, we went for the 8 choice menu and it was plentiful ( we took lots home) And there was a delicious selection of hot and cold food from smoked salmon crostini to moorish beef sliders which were a hit with everyone. All of our guests complimented the food saying it was the best buffet they had ever had and they were not wrong. If you need a venue, for whatever gathering you have then please do not waste your time like I did visiting lots of establishments, just go straight to see Rob at The Railway Inn Botley, you will have made the best decision and be thoroughly looked after. Thank you so much Rob and the team, you could not have been more helpful and made a very difficult day a...

Just not worth it. Came in for a couple of drinks and maybe food but left after only one drink so can’t comment on the food. I got a pint of peroni and it came to £6.80 there is absolutely no way this is justified and although the staff were lovely even they seemed embarrassed by that. I have never even heard of a pint this expensive anywhere in the country or the world it’s just silly. The food looked nice but again just wasn’t worth it for me. It’s not even like a fancy atmosphere or clientele which would have made it potentially worth staying it was just an average pub. Now on to the pint i thought it was impossible to have a bad pint of peroni but this was almost flat and tastes like dish water. As the saying goes a fool is quickly parted with his money and i would’ve been a fool to stay here any longer or ever come back. If you are looking for some food and have a lot of money to spare go for it you will probably enjoy it from the other reviews but this is just not really a pub. The outside area was quite nice but for such an expensive place i feel like it just needs a little bit more than the standard uncomfortable benches and wasp...

Very mixed experience. We had lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, so a very quiet time to visit and sure enough there was not many people there when we arrived. We ordered our drinks and mains and they came promptly and were very nice, however one of the burgers was missing one of its toppings as they'd run out of brisket. We then ordered desserts. A simple Eaton mess and 2 chocolate brownies and ice cream. We waited. And waited. And after about 30 mins or so we asked if they'd forgotten them as that seemed a long time to wait for something so simple between 14.00 and 15.00 on a Tuesday. Eventually at 15.12 our desserts arrived some 50 minutes after ordering, 1h 22 mins after our mains, with an apology for the time taken. About to tuck in I noticed we had no ice cream on the brownies so I had to go find someone to ask what had happened. Eventually someone came to tell us there was an issue with the freezer and there wasn't any. I wish we had been told this 45 mins earlier as we'd not have stayed and waited. We wasted some precious family time on something which didn't arrive and my family had to then get their boat home instead of a planned visit elsewhere.

We recently celebrated our wedding breakfast and reception at the Railway Inn, and it exceeded all our expectations. We can’t thank Alice and the team enough, our day was nothing short of perfect. The staff, with their friendly and accommodating approach, made us feel right at home. They seamlessly managed every aspect of our event, from setting up the venue to ensuring a smooth flow throughout the evening. This included managing our suppliers like the florist, Photo Booth and band for evening entertainment. Now, let's talk about the food - an absolute highlight! Unlike with normal wedding venues, our guests could choose what they wanted from a small menu which we created alongside the chef. Our guests are still raving about the delicious food now! The evening food was also a hit, but we were too full from dinner and busy socialising to eat any ourselves. If you're considering the Railway Inn for your wedding venue, rest assured, you're in capable hands with Alice. We are immensely grateful for the incredible experience that will forever be etched in our hearts. Thank you, the Railway Inn, for making our wedding day truly magical.

Sorry. This is the only picture I have regarding the Railway Inn. We were so busy tucking into the delicious food, I completely forgot to take photos. So, here is a picture of a half-attacked camembert. We've visited the Railway Inn twice in the past month, and both times were excellent. The second time especially had me excited, as we were in search of somewhere to munch on a roast. I was a little gutted to see that the wine marinated lamb, which is on the online menu, wasn't on the menu when we sat down. So, I settled for the topside of beef, priced at £19. You know what? I'm not even mad. I would usually be a little dubious about two types of cabbage for dinner. I'm not exactly winning any swimsuit awards. But wow, even I cleared that plate. The seasoning on the roast potatoes was so good, and the beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender. To top it off, the staff are great. Nobody looked like they didn't want to be there, and they were very attentive. Definitely going back!
